I'm starting to work on my 360's again. I tried a few backside 3's today one wake at about 19. I came real close on one but was having a hard time spinning a few.
When you guys learned frontside and/or backside 3's or 5's did you really have to think hard about giving a hard tug on the handle for the rotation? I've been doing 180's for years now and I've gotten so used to not really having to use the handle at all and instead just use the pull of the boat to float them around. Just thinking that might be my problem trying the threes and I'm thinking more about rotating (trying to spin faster and rush it) and less about pulling hard on the handle.
So 2 questons for you guys throwing 3's. Did you have to really focus on giving a hard tug for the rotation when you learned them? And did you try them one wake or w2w? _________________ Wake Forest University
I wouldnt get into the habit of taking it one wake. I know you would be doing it for practice but you really wouldnt get the necessary air time or effect to learn the trick properly. Three key things I always focus one when doing 3's.
HS FS 3
1. I always try to cut out JUST enough to clear the wake. Going harder is always better IMO because no one likes casing the wake.
2. On my cut I really concentrate on getting my edge early and fast so that I can take my edge off when I get to the wake to stand tall early to maximize my pop.
3. I start the turn by looking over my left shoulder while pulling the rope hard with my right hand to the small of my back. Once this is done all is needed is the handle pass and that will complete the 360 with no effort on your part. Then just spot the landing.
Just remember pop, pull, pass. _________________ 93 four winns
I wouldn't say you have to give a hard tug on the rope to rotate the 3. A stiff movement directly to your lower back will get you there. You don't want to pull the handle way around the side of your back, it makes the handle hard to get.
The other important thing is to wait to rotate. If you start to rotate while you're coming off the wake you'll have a ton of line tension which makes it difficult to pull the handle in.
This is the case for both frontside and backside 3. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone.
