Hey Guys im doing a survey and would like to know how many of you who ride with a non CGA vest are worried about the possibility of having a hard fall, blacking out, coming out your bindings and drowning? and if you could do something about it but still ride with the vest would you ?

Thanks guys

I wear a CGA on cable (mostly because they make you but also half because it would probably take a while before someone notices you not moving and would be able to react).

Generally when I ride behind a boat/kiteboard,I wear a non-CGA. I made sure my non-CGA will AT LEAST float me on the surface if I fall and get ejected from my bindings. I figure that on a boat you're the only one out there and if something goes wrong, the people you are with will notice right away and get you (unless they don't like you Laughing ). Kiting I wear a non-CGA simply because it fits better and is out of the way of the rest of my gear.

Non-CGA all the way!

I ride with the Oneil Gooru and I absolutely love the thing. Feels like a shirt, and floats suprisingly well. Much better than my old Jet Pilot A-10.

I haven't worn a CGA approved vest for years... and never would. They feel too bulky and with that bulk sometimes I think you would probably get knocked out easier or at least be winded.... all depending on the design.

I wear a jet pilot side entry.. I've seen some of the big pro riders cut out some of the foam in their jackets too.. so take your pic. The risk isn't as high as you think if your crew in the boat isn't clowns.

yeah i own a non CGA MYstic wakeboard force vest, love it, but if there was a product that could stop the possibility of drowning without getting in the way of anything and allowing you to still ride that vest would you guys spend money on this sort of product?

lucasade66, Probably not. If people are concerned with drowning, they're going to be riding a CGA vest anyway (at least I would, hence why I wear one at the cable).

Now if you could make a CGA vest that was as comfortable as a non-CGA, you'd make a heck of a lot of money.

I used to ride with a non-cga mainly because I competed a lot but once I stopped doing comps I switched to a cga. Mainly because the cga offers some extra padding in the front and I noticed it helped a lot on the bad falls that would usually knock the wind out of me.

After some hairy 'n scary moments I wear CGA, only when surfing non-CGA. However, to be CGA approved I think a vest needs, besides be able to float you face upwards, to have 2 buckles. If there was a non-CGA vest that'd float me, whether it was face up or down, and didn't have 2 (or 1) buckles I'd be in. Or better, like Gnarshredd said, a CGA that's as thin as a non CGA...

I ride CGA. I know every time I fall I don't want to have to worry about doing anything to keep myself afloat... I would rather the vest do its thing.

It really depends on the product. If it is so streamlined that it is easier to use with a non-CGA vest than to wear a CGA vest, then yes, I would buy it (and I ride a CGA vest right now). I also think that many others would consider it. However, this all depends on the actual product, if it is expensive, untrustworthy, and/or bulky, then clearly no.

P.S. you can also make poll's built into the top of the post so that people can vote their answer.

I only wear CGA...Nothing against the non-CGA though, as they usually float you just fine... If you get knocked out, CGA or non, you can still float facedown & drown right?

back in my younger days, I used to use the "fleshtone" once in a while as well BrianABE.

Sounds like someone's got a product invention. I would guess people that don't care about floating won't care about floating even if you make a different product. I would guess most people in the group of not caring enough to wear a cga vest won't care enough to wear product X either.

My $.02

I might get something like this if it made Non-CGA vests CGA approved, but I imagine that's not gonna happen.
