OK, I have read that a nice upgrade for a I/O would be a high 5 prop. To help with the speed issue as well as the wake. I was up for purchasing one abut the guy at the prop shop said that all I need was a 16 X 16 prop, and only had a SS high 5 with a high price tag. I wasn't going to tell the guy that he was wrong, and purchased the 16 X 16. Has anyone had any experience with both of these props, and is the high 5 prop the one that I need? I really want to get the high 5 if it really makes a difference.

A high five is the way to go. Works greqt for hole shots and speed control. Try to find a nice 17 or 19p on ebay or craigslist.

The 16 X 16 seems to be doing fine with a hydrofoil and weight in the boat. But I can't keep wondering if the High 5 will be any better. I just added 6 water bed tubes to the front of the boat and 5 bags of tube sand the locker and man what a difference! I will get some pics this weekend!

That boat was actually really small. Not my Bayliner, but know with that comment said, I have to buy one just to see for myself! That boat was a 16 or 18 footer, at that particular lake they have codes that your boat has to be under a certain weight to keep the peace. It's lake Hiwassee in OK, a private ski lake.

I don't know which High 5 to buy though. I have a 21 footer, with a 5.0 L Mercruiser. I have determined that I want a 17 or 19 pitch. I doubt they are that much different, but the first # on the prop is what gets me. 13 1/4 or 14 1/4, 15. I know that it is the circumference of the round part of the prop. I believe. Me having a "larger" motor, not V6 or 4 banger, can I have a 13 1/4, 17P? any help with this would be highly appreciated.

Def. go with the 17 I have a 21ft ebbtide with the 5.0 and if u are weighting it the rpms will stay down. My marina wanted me in a 19 but i went 17 and it was perfect. Empty boat no ballast an and WOT could go past 5K but with it loaded up its abt 4650 fully trimmed up. And SO much easier to drive than any of the other props I tried. (ss 4 blade 19, Aluminum 3 blade 19 and 21P, Hi 5 21P)

I posted a link not long ago with a good deal on Hi 5 props... Propellers by Nettle.

You will love the Hi 5.

That's a great deal! It looks like it's aluminum though, not stainless like the Merc High5. I'm in a similar situation. 18' Mariah with a 4.3, 19p 3-blade, tends to lose a ton of speed on cuts.

It's Stainless Steel! All 5 blade props are made out of SS. (I THINK) I haven't seen one out of Aluminum, I would have purchased one. But here is a description of the prop from the website.

Whether you're pulling skiers or hauling it to your favorite fishing hole, the QST-5 propeller unleashes the ultimate in hole shot. Its five-blade stainless steel design pulls strong and smooth, even in rough water. Plus, it offers great bow lift and handling. That's why more weekend boaters and water-skiers demand the power of the QST-5.

- For 135 - 225 hp outboards and Alpha, Bravo One and TRS sterndrives (17" - 21" pitch)
- Perfect for ski boats and light bass boats
- Five blades of superior hole shot torque
- Smooth even pull in rough water
- Great bow lift with low steering torque
- Requires Flo-Torq II hub 835257Q1 (Not Included)

HIGH FIVE by MERCURY (QUICKSILVER) (their own website)
These are a polished
finished stainless steel
made by Mercury
(Quicksilver) Marine

The quicksilver props are made by Mercury but without the "NAME" on them. They are cheaper props but the same quality. That is what I have found out.

Has a Quicksilver QST 5 on my boat. Got it for around $400 shipped brand new. Same as the Hi5. They are essentially the same prop. They are both STAINLESS STEEL not aluminum. Jeeze.

I really like the QST 5, way different "feel" then a 3 blade prop. Haven't tried to wakeboard or pull anyone yet. But it's just cooler having a SS steel prop on it anyways.
