Three times this summer I have sprained one or both of my ankles wakeboarding. Every time, it has resulted from catching my heel side edge, and partially or fully ejecting from my bindings. I have an pair of LF trip bindings, the '06 or '07 year, not totally sure. They came with my board, also a LF trip, and are black with white stripes on the sides. I've tried tightening my bindings down as far as possible, but on a hard hit, I still eject.
My question is, is this normal? I have learned almost no new tricks this summer, because I'm scared of going big enough to learn inverts and spins. A bad crash usually leaves me unable to walk for a few days, and my job requires me to be on my feet all day.
Is it worth upgrading my bindings, or is this a problem I should try to fix with better technique? The injury always occurs when I eject. I think that if I didn't fly out of my bindings, I wouldn't have this problem, but I don't know enough to be sure. Should I be ejecting on a hard fall, like ski bindings? Or are my bindings simply not holding me in place strongly enough? |

Some professional riders use a test, of their feet get a little numb after a while of riding then their bindings fit well.
As far as i know, you're bindings are supposed to keep your feet locked in but also allow them to slip out on hard falls.
Maybe get bindings with better support for your lower shin area to keep your ankle locked in and less likely to bend? |

Does it feel like your bindings are loosening up during your set? The lace locks on 3-4 year old bindings may be worn out. You should defiantly stay in your bindings, sooner or later you will have a 1 in 1 out crash, and that's how knees get twisted. Get something that locks your feet in better. Might want to look at some closed toe models. _________________

| I haven't been in the sport long, but I have never had a foot even partially come out of my bindings. I got some closed toe Soven bindings and I really don't think my foot could come out no matter how hard I fall. I took a really nasty fall last weekend and my feet stayed perfectly in place. Like Jeffrey said, eventually your gonna have just one foot slip out and end up with a much worse injury than a sprained ankle. I would look into some better bindings. |

I had this problem back in the 04 time-frame. I found I would get stripped out of my bindings and it would sprain my ankle every time. I tried wrapping my ankle before I went out and that helped a little. I don't think it fully healed until the off-season when I gave it a few months rest.
Bindings that have a firmer hold on your legs should help you from being stripped from your boots. Either that or you just need to lace them tighter. They're not tight enough until they're hurting your feet after 15-20 minutes. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

| You need a new set of bindings for sure. LF transites are nice. |
