Alright so there is at least one post that i know of out there talking about this sort of thing already: http://forums.wakeboarder.com/viewtopic.php?t=75163
However I wanted to make a complete listing specific to my problem instead of hijacking a different thread. Basically my back seat is completely shot and needs to be rebuilt.
At this point I figured why not kill two birds with one stone. Right now my ballast bags lay on either side of the engine of my DD. This is a total PITA for moving around so I would like to try to make my back seat an integrated ballast.
I *really* like the idea in the aforementioned thread where the guy had a plastic tank put in. Has anyone else done this? If so where did you get it done and most importantly how much did the tank cost.
I would like as much brainstorming input as possible before I start the project because learning as you go is expensive and I'm guessing this won't be a cheap project by any means. _________________ Today is a chance to become a greater person than the person we were the day before. |

Well I think I've decided to go with the hard plastic tank as the bottom of my seat. The only way to get a fair amount of weight back there would be to extend the back seat out farther so that it bumps up to the engine hood. From there I would have to modify the hood and how it hinges so that things would still work properly. I'll try to sketch up some ideas and see if I can get some feedback. _________________ Today is a chance to become a greater person than the person we were the day before. |

Why don't you build something out of fiberglass. You would come out much cheeper that way than buying something that will make you modify the boat. If you build it custom, you can make it anyway that you want.
Build the seat bottom out of fiberglass and then if you wanted to really make sure its water tight, put in a peice of thick rubber on the bottom and the sides. If it was me doing this, that is the way that I would go. Fiberglass is very easy to work with. My first project with it is a speakerbox for my tower speakers. |

I would recommend that you get something custom, it's not that expensive. Plastic tank or tanks, with level indicators:) _________________ Silver Skurfer |

yeah I started thinking about really how much work it would be and got cold feet. I patched what was an issue back up with the old seat and I'm sure she's got at least 3 more years in her now.
I wanted to do it.. then the wife told me we could get a new boat end of next season. Then I completely stopped caring about modding the back seat
We'll let it be someone else's dream when we sell the boat next year _________________ Today is a chance to become a greater person than the person we were the day before. |
