Hey guys, i've been reading a lot about getting across the wake into the flats. I feel like i'm getting real close, but i still can't quite clear the wake! Here is a video of where i am at right now. Any advice would be appreciated!

First, you need to edge all the way through the wake. You are letting up when you get close to the wake.
Second, extend your legs and stand tall at the top of the wake. I start extending my legs at the bottom of the wake and stand up tall right at the top.
If you do those two things, you will get a lot more air and you will easily get a W2W . |

yep whacked hit it on the head. Your cut is actually really good. You do let up a little right before you hit the wake which isn't ideal, but your main problem is letting the push from the wake get taken up by your body. Stand tall (aka don't let your knees take out the push - push down with your legs as hard as you can to counteract the force coming up and you'll pop like no tomorrow. _________________ Today is a chance to become a greater person than the person we were the day before. |

Thanks guys. I felt like I was cutting into the wake pretty good, that was actually where 90% of my concentration was being directed. After watching all the video I took from the day I can see what you guys are talking about with me not standing stiff at the wake. That is what I will work on next time.
Also, my boat is obviously not a wakeboarding boat as I'm sure you can tell from the wake... How helpful would ballists and a whale tail type fin on the lower unit be in creating a better wake? The boat is a 2002 Galaxie with a Merc Cruiser i/o.
Thanks again,
Chris |

canyonchris, these guys making the point about your knees being more straight is a good one but the one about you quitting your edge is EQUALLY important. Don't fool yourself into thinking that just straightening your legs will get you there. You MUST edge hard all the way through the wake.
With the proper technique you can w2w behind anything. But DO get some ballast in between the bow seats of your I/O. It will help. _________________

canyonchris, I wouldn't worry about adding ballast until you can clear the wake everytime without having to concentrate on it. Adding a whale tail may be necessary once you add weight but you really don't need one until you do add some weight. _________________ Does this rag smell like chloroform?
