1st generation Grinch Winch experience?

I have an opportunity to buy an older 1st generation grinch winch and was wondering if anybody has tried it. It's a 6.5hp wich is only .5hp less than the new model but the torque converter and gearing might be different. I'm not sure.

Me and most of my friends are around 200lbs so i want to know if this thing can yank us out of the water or not.

anybody ever use this thing?

You might be iffy on deepwater starts with a 6.5 horse at that weight. You shouldn't have a problem if you're sitting on the shoreline or on a chair/ledge to start though.

You can buy tune-up kits though and tweak the engine a bit and you'll be good to go.

Personally I'd look for a winch with at least an 8hp engine and you won't have to worry.
