Need some advice. I have a $200 credit at west marine and would like to buy a wakeboard. I am moderately good at wakeboarding (airs but no 360's, etc). I weight 190 and am 6'. I spoke to one guy at west marine and he recommended the following CWB (please copy and paste link below):

http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=147028&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&storeId=11151&storeNum=10123&subdeptNum=10941&classNum=10943

I really like the idea of the torq bindings and how easy they are to get out.

Then I spoke to another guy at west marine and he said that the CWB board @ 141 was way to big for me. He recommended the Liquid Force:

http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=213829&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&storeId=11151&storeNum=10123&subdeptNum=10941&classNum=10943

I'm not excited about the bindings but he stated that 138 was a perfect size.

Any thoughts on which one I should go with would be greatly appreciated!!

Well, I am not personally familiar with the bindings in the boards, but I would say that at your size either board would be just fine for you. I ride a 137 and I am 6' and like 160lbs.

Also, both wakeboards are good wakeboards, and there are more people on here that could give you personal experience recommendations, but the Trip has been around forever and is time tested, while the Pure is newer, but has gotten good reviews. So you can't really go wrong with either, even considering sizing.

What kind of board you ride/what size of board you do you ride currently?

That guy doesn't really know his stuff... that 141 isn't gonna be too big for you, and If I were you, I'd be looking at the trip in a 142, not the 138. Im only 165 lbs, and I'd ride the 142 over the 138. As for the boots, those index boots are probably the best entry level boot out there, and hinge-tec bindings are so outdated now because every other boot is just as easy to get in and out of without all that extra hardware on them (more stuff to break)

My advice to you would be to get the trip in a 142 with those index bindings, you won't be disappointed.

I would agree with Luke, I absolutely LOVE my Trip 142. I'm shorter but fatter, and the 142 is a good size. I also had some reservations about the bindings but they're amazing. You may want to stand on the platform (if you have one) to get in them and cinch them down tight and then jump off into the water. They really hold your feet well and I haven't noticed the laces slipping at all, plus they are super comfortable. The LF is a quality entry level setup and should still serve you well through your progression.

MY buddy jimmie has the pure in the first link. when he trys to edge hard it always catches (not sure which edge cause it happens so fast) and rolls him up hard. some nasty diggers.
not sure if its because the board is so short (134) or what but he never did it when he was borrowing my gear.
the white looks amazing on the water though.

Get atleast a 140 for your weight/height, that west marine guy doesnt know what hes talking about a 141 is perfect size for you. I prefer Lf over CWB any day.

One other question that I'd like to shoot out there: My wife would like to occationally mess (not go wild) around on the board too. She weights 115 and has a mens size 5 foot. Is there anyway that she could ride either of the two boards in those bindings?

Thanks for your advice guys. I think that I'll take you up on that and go with a 142 LF.

If she's just messing around it's not going to make much of a difference, unless she starts making progress, and at that point shell be wanting her own setup if she's hooked on riding

I didn't see a binding size mentioned in what you were looking to get, but depending on what she is doing, it doesn't reeeeally matter what size of a binding she is riding if she is only going to get up and ride around. As soon as she is looking to jump/ollie/slide around though it will begin to affect her a bit.

But if she can only get up and move about, then she should be fine to ride your larger bindings. She'll likely have a lot of foot movement, dems some small feet!

Board shouldn't be a problem for her, but the bindings will probably be pretty sketchy. If you've got a normal foot you'll be in the 8-12 range for LF which is what is offered in that link. I'm about a 9, and sometimes I just can't cinch those LFs down as tight as I want. They're not sloppy loose, but I could go tighter. With her small feet she may slide around in them a lot. It's probably going to be the same with the CWB as well. She can always try it out and see. Worst case scenario is you'll have to look for a pair of womens or kids bindings to stick on the board when she wants to ride.

I can't say enough good things about the Trip though. Was out today with mine and the more I ride it the more I love it. Only a couple hours on it so I'm still adjusting from my old board, but the Trip handles it all. Can go wake 2 wake easily and it'll boot you into the flats if you want it to. I'm never gonna be a pro, I'm just out there for fun and I may not need another board until this one just gets old.

I would personally go with the Trip. I have ridden that board before and loved it. And I'm a pretty big CWB fan because I'm riding a Transcend right now and love it. However, it seems that LF entry level is in a whole other league compared to CWB or Hyperlite entry level. Go with the Trip, but in the 142. I weigh 185 now and can kinda feel the 138 sinking if i drop the boat below 20. The dude who told you that was just trying to make a sale or didnt know what he was talking about. Also any binding at that level will be fairly easy to get into.
