Are you trying to carve hard or slide sideways?

If you're trying to just slide sideways you're going to want to trasnfer a little weight to the front of the board, but not so much that you catch an edge. then when you're in the slide you can lean back a little.

Also if you have large fins on the board it's just not going to work. unless you're doing slides on the wake.

The key to surface moves is in the handle. Most new riders try to move their feet and legs. Instead, just go neutral (flat) with the board and concentrate on moving the handle around your body. This will pull the board around sideways.

Sliding on your heels is dead easy once you get the hand of it. Ditch any central fin is you have one, as this will enable the board to turn more easily, remember to bend your knees - more stability, put more weight on your heels, then move the handle across into a central position, remembering to keep it low.

If you can already do switches this is more easy as your only going 90 degrees not a full 180. Then you just sit back on your heels and ride away.

Oh one big tip, slow the boat right down when you first learn stuff like this, it makes it sooooo much easier.

Once you've got it behind the boat, do it outside the wakes, then learn to hop it up onto the wake for lipsliding. Then learn to do it backwards.
