Hello

I m one of these old school guys who used to ride a Skurfer (original bright pink) and then "evolved" to a composite slalom wake board with bindings and thruster fin set up by O'Brien, around 1991. Never could make the step to the actual wake board, not my style
Anyhow, I am looking at replacing my old board and was wondering if anyone still makes boards of that style (I guess a cross between today's wake and surf) or if anyone would have one for sale. Ideally in Europe but it does not really matter where

Help, I m desperate,

Cheers

P

I'm old school and started outon Skurfers too. I just saw a few Skurfers on eBay last week or 2. Check there. I made the switch to wakeboard about 12 years ago, and am still using the same board!

Craig-R, which of us? I am. I got this board after I landed a huge jump and broke the last one in 2. Don't remember what brand it was, but it wasn't cheap!

Are you looking for the old directional surfboard looking WB? I have a Connelly Blade Runner that I picked up at a garage sale about 5 years ago. One of the sandal bindings is broke, but I think the inserts will take modern bindings.

I think people are just confused that you would intentionally seek out a board that would limit your ability to wakeboard. The new boards are designed for popping and getting airborne but they still slaysh much better than the old designs. Where the old school thrusters relied on fins due to poor board designs, the new shapes rely on bevels, concaves, thinner edges and, to an extent, fins to control how the board interacts with the water.

I promise that you could do all the same old hot doggin stuff on a new ride. Look for something narrower and faster.

As for anyone making the old design, generally no. But there is one character whose legend supercedes all things glorious in schralping. http://moosesurfboards.com/ This guy used to make "Shred Sticks" much like you are looking for, he might still be able to help you out.

I have seen a few of the Skurfer boards on ebay also. I have been looking for an original skurfer for my collection of boards. I have yet to get my hands on that and a perez board.

Just a though but I kind of know where you are coming from I have been a slalom skier for over 30 years and about 5 years ago I bought a wakeboard and hated it The board always felt like it was sliding all over and I had little or no control, a few months ago I decided to give it another try and thanks to a few friends I found out I was placing to much of my weight on the back of the board so with a few their tips I was able to get my body position correct and was carving pretty well the first time out and have been having a blast this summer. My advice would be to get a current wakeboard with good bindings and give it another try but make sure you are riding it like a wakeboard and not a surfboard, I still ski and surf but wake boarding is great because I dont feel a limited in what I can do

If you do decide to go with a modern wakeboard, in order to achieve a little more of the feel that you are looking for I would be sure to look for a board that has a Continuous rocker (vs. a 3-stage rocker) and is labeled as "fast" by peer reviews.

Something like the LF Trip, Groove, or Team are some that come to mind from the LF line. I ride a continuous rocker board from Slingshot, and I'm pretty sure that there are some continuous CWB, Company, Ronix and O'Brien boards. A couple other brands that are good to look at, but I am not sure whether have a board with continuous rocker at the moment are Hyperlite and JStar.
