|
|
I have been on a wakeboard for about 8 years but have never gotten serious with it. I now have other friends getting into it now and some have bought some nice boats that will make nice wakes so I think it's time to upgrade to a more durable and advanced board.
I can ride pretty well and land decent jumps but never hit big wakes yet. I'm 6' 240lbs and have a size 15 foot so I need a heavy duty board and some big bindings. I just sold some XXL Liquid Force Ultra Suction bindings cause they were a killer to get on and off my big feet. I still have my board, just a cheap Hydroslide Backdraft 142cm which I like but haven't ridden anything to compare against. I like to be able to cut sharp and lean hard but would like to get good air, not into sliding or railing.
Just looking to get some name brand\models that would be good for what I'm looking to do and would possibly hold up to my size. I'm open to different price ranges but I'd like to get the best quality for my $$$. |

| You'll want a board that's 141cm or larger, as they usually specify rider weight of 250+. As for brands, CWB, Hyperlite, Liquid Force all make quality boards, along with Ronix and some others. I won't be much help with models though, as I'm happy with an average board. You may prefer a more advanced board. I've got a Liquid Force Trip, which is pretty good for the weekend warrior sort of rider. Something more advanced would be a Lyman or Watson, pretty much anything named after a pro rider will be quality but expensive and suited for more advanced riders. I will say that anything is going to be way ahead of that Hydroslide, especially when it comes to bindings. You might have to start at bindings and find a company that makes ones to fit you, then find a board. |

I have a friend with size 15 feet and I had him try on the Ronix Frank bindings. He said they were kind of snug but would probably work. Technically they only go up to 14.5 but at least it's a starting point. I don't think I would run out and buy them if I were you but it's at least something you can try if you can't find anything to fit your feet. _________________ Today is a chance to become a greater person than the person we were the day before. |

I am your same size (6', 240lbs, size 13) and ride a Ronix One (142). I think you would love this board as I do. The bindings, however, could be a problem. I have the Byerly XXL and they are snug. You may have to go with a less expensive binding with a velcro front closure to fit over your giant feet.
Good Luck

Go and try on bindings at a shop. Your biggest problem will be the fit of the bindings. Board wise.. 142-146. I would lean more towards the 145-146 range. _________________ Wakeskating

| I know LF used to make a ridiculous sized version of the Alphas, like 14-15s. Called them the alpha magnums or something |

| I went to Overton's today and tried four different XXL bindings and the Liquid Force Ultra lace-ups may work if I can't find anything else, still looking but if I go with those then what LF board would be a good choice, the sales person was pushing toward the wittness. I see it's definitly best to buy the board with bindings if possible for the price. |

I really liked the witness the couple times I had the chance to ride it. It's a board that has plenty of control for a beginner but will hang with your skill level from now on. _________________

LF makes a 12-15 Index and domain, and IMO they make the best beginner-priced bindings out there. Ronix Divides should fit you too, but the LF boots have more support. _________________

As far as a board is concerned I like the ride styles of the lyman and the shane (both LF boards), and i like the shane better. They are probably a bit on the lower end of the size of boards you want to ride but I don't think they'd be horrible for you. Are you 250 stacked muscle or 250 with some weight to lose? If you start wakeboarding regularly your weight will probably go down and I think the 142/143 would be fine.
Good luck and get out and ride _________________ Today is a chance to become a greater person than the person we were the day before. |

| I rode my friends Byrley Conspiracy this weekend and really liked it, the wide thin tips made for easier launching and landing of jumps at least much smoother and easier than my old cheap board. His bindings however felt like sardine cans on my feet LOL. The little bit I've looked I really like LF bindings but am leaning toward a Byrley board. If I could ride a LF Witness and liked it I'd probably buy that with the Ultra bindings that seem to fit me the best so far. Anyone rode the Witness and Conspiracy to give me any comparison? I know the Witness is a less expensive board so I'm sure there would be a noticeable difference, mainly interested in it for the combo price to get the bindings I'd want. I don't know why I don't mind so much spending the $$$ for the board but have a hard time spending what they want for the bindings alone. I guess doing the same thing I did when younger, didn't mind paying for a nice hunting rifle but skimped when it come to the scope and it seemed to cost me the last 10 minutes of an evening hunt, usually the most active time too. I would imagine the same with a wakeboard setup, not going to get the full potential of the board without a quality binding? |

| mjmvf, definitely dont skimp on the bindings. Boards and bindings are completely equal in importance. The witness is a great board, I havent ridden the Conspiracy, but the Witness is a top of the line LF pro model board, you will not be held back by it. Whether or not it is THE board for you, I couldnt say. You would have to ride it, but its a great board, good price, and if you combo it with a pair of bindings you like (the ultras), I think you would be very happy with your purchase. |

| I am 6'4", 240 (this week - 10 lbs over norm). My foot size is 13. I ride a Hyperlite ERA 147 with LF Index bindings 12-15. I love the board so much that I got my wife the HP Syn (female version). I recently got the Index bindings because of their comfort and light weight. They are a great mid level binding. |

Operation,
Would you say the index are std width or do they run a little on the wide side.
I have been watching this pretty closely as I am looking for a board binding combo and had been looking at index's as well as Im 6'1 230 and size 13....
Thanks |

The 12-15 seems to be a little wider. | stu929 wrote: | Operation,

Are the Index and Domain the same binding other than the difference of string and velcro closures and which fastening system holds up better throughout the ride and longevity?
I tried on the Index the other day and I could get my foot in and out OK but seemed like the arch support was too far back, maybe just didn't have my foot seated properly in them. |
