Wanted to be the guy that just gets to show up with beer and a couple bucks for gas? I would for just one weekend like to be able to go ride without all the work that goes into getting there.
Went out Friday morning, and the lake was chop crap at 8am. Had to get a new battery before I left, then blew a trailer tire pulling into the parking lot. My spare has been dead since last year, so had to go back to town to get a tire. The rim was fubared so tire and rim it was. I went to menards and the tire/rim combo's they had weren't the same size tire, so I had to get 2 of 'em.
My alternator died late last season, so I just kept charging my battery and carrying a spare from my brothers fishing boat. All that running the battery down and re-charging must have fried my battery.

The high lights of the weekend. I did finally get my HS FS 180's W2W. Taught 4 people how to ride, my nephew, a buddy, his GF, and some other chick that showed up. I was reading in another thread that women get out of the water easier then guys. That is so true, both the girls got right up first shot, took all day before the guys actually got it. Out of the dozen ot so people I've taught, this has always been the case _________________

wow man that is a pain. It definately is nice to just be able to show up and ride. People don't realize how much work goes into a boat until you own one. _________________ 93 four winns

No kidding, it's not just getting the boat there and maintaining it. There is all the camping gear, making sure I have enough food and beer, loading the grill, it is a ton of work. Plus it always seems at the beginning of the weekend I can get people to help me get ready, but when I get home all of a sudden no one is around when it's time to clean up and put away everything. However even though this weekend kind of sucked, all the people that chipped in for gas and brought food and beer I think I made a couple bucks out of the deal _________________

We live within 10 minutes of a lake currently, and in 5 years we'll be living on one so I don't have to do the extra work with food planning and whatnot, but my parents did that when I was a kid and yes it's a ton of work and I totally hear you.
As far as the boat thing goes. I totally agree and have thought that before - sure wish I could just show up and ride. The problem is by me I have a hard enough time getting people to want to pay the full gas price, so i just tell them to pay me whatever so I have enough thirds.
Seems like with a boat you always have those "little things" going wrong and to fix the "little thing" it's almost never under 100 bucks. It's just so funny with perspective. People that don't have a boat freak out when I tell them how much it costs for gas for 1 set. People with boats would probably gladly pay double that to not have to worry about owning one. Of course the thirds never know that until they own one themselves.
Well you know what BOAT stands for right? Break out another $thousand$ _________________ Today is a chance to become a greater person than the person we were the day before. |

| True that, I hate how naive people are when it comes to the the time and money involved in going on the lake, especially camping. It's tough enough getting peopleto throw down money for one set let alone multiple sets on a 3 day camp trip. Always nice to end up with a few extra bucks from the gas collection to contribute towards maintenance, but that rarely happens. I wish one of my friends had a wake boat I could go drink, relax and board on.... |

I luckily have access to a boat I can take whenever I feel and boats I can just go jump on for the day. All my lakes are at least 45 minutes away though and people usually only pitch in about $10 when I drive. That's maybe 3 or 4 people(usually different groups of lesser experienced people when I take the boat out). But at the end of the day I usually bitch at everyone to bring more next time. $70 in gas for the boat and $40 for the truck(people always forget it takes gas to get out there). Everyone also ends up using all my stuff in these cases.
I always pitch in $20 and bring my own gear, maybe a case of beer/pepsi when I go on other peoples boats though...Or I bring like 6 hot ladies and tell the driver we're even, they usually have no problems with that instead of gas:P |
