Is alpine worth the money? If it is which one would you recommend because I'm going to replace the one I have.

Alpine head units are sweet, and last forever. There are better amp and speakers on the market.... especially for marine use.

I'm looking for head units. Is alpine really worth the money or is there something better?

I have had really good luck with two high end Alpine decks in my last two boats. They have a lot of outputs and inputs, relatively high power line level output. You can turn off the power IC, (i did) for better audio fidelity out of the RCA's if you don't have speakers wired. They have a dial type volume control, good controls and displays in general. They have really good sub controls and filters, plus lots of imaging controls that are probably very useful considering you have three different speaker arrays to tune. I didn't care for their "high speed" Ipod connection, but I use an HK control for that anyway.

The cd works OK, I don't use CD's much. Overall, the Alpines have held up well even with incidental water splashes, kids, etc. I can definitely recommend using an Alpine head unit on a boat.

One other thing, skip the transom remote if you ride a lot, they just get in the way.

Do they have good wired remotes? I like the idea of having a remote at the driver helm.

What? How does a mounted remote that's less then 1/2" thick get in the way of your riding? I use my transom remote more than the helm remote in my boat....
