| to break them in?? I know I've seen several posts about this, but I've heard different opinions about the warm water inthe tub idea as some say it only helps form the footbed of the binding. Secondly, I don't even have a tub unfortunately. Right now I've put some pepsi cans inside the bindings with socks surrounding them. My friend suggested spray paint cans. They are still really tight on my foot. I bought xxl, and I wear a size 13, and I'm SOOO glad I bought them. XL's would've destroyed my feet! I know they will feel super comfortable once they are broken in, but they really are a bi*ch to get into when you're in the water and you slipped out of them on a hard fall. I always have to get back onto the boat. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks! |

The hot water trick will help. It will help mold the footbed to your feet and kinda help mold the overlays. If you put a can or something in them it might help stretch the overlays a bit but it will mold the bindings to the can not your foot. Try the hot water trick where you put them in hot water for about 15 min, take them out and put them on and let them dry on your feet. If you do this a couple of times and just go out and use them a few times they will break in. _________________ www.krookedminds.com

Jmass03, The best way I found to break in Ultra's is ride them! Alot! I'm going on my 3rd pair. They are always tight when I first get them, after a month of abuse, they fit like a glove. Unless you got the wrong size, but for a 13, XXl is perfect. I wear a 10-10.5 and always by larges. The last ones I had, I rode them for a few summers, the last time I rode them, I didn't use lube. They stretch alot when ridden. _________________ www.MidwestMilitia.net |

Yeah, you can. But it can be a pain in the ass. A problem I had, was after I adjusted them, they 'broke in' about a month later and were too loose. So I had to tighten them back. The pair after that I just dealt with the tightness, and they loosened up eventually. _________________ www.MidwestMilitia.net |

NAW's all over it. They are tight as shizzle when you first get them, but riding them will break them in the right way. I'm a 10.5 and I wear large Ultras. It is very painful for the first 2-3 weeks, but it's worth it, you just have to deal with it.
If you must try to break them in quicker, put your feet in the binding first, then put them into a bath tub full of hot water for about 20 minutes. That should do the trick. Getting them off without a board on is a little tricky though. Don't bend the base plate.
Later... |

[b]NAW, yeah - I have 10.5 in larges too. Everyone will tell you these bindings are too tight to fit 10.5 into a large, but that's what you want...
It took me 2 seasons to break mine in, but that's better than having them stretch too much and being worthless. The other thing I've noticed is that these need like 70 degree water to loosen up. If you ride in cold water conditions, they will not be forgiving on your foot circulation. |

i just demoed a pair yesterday, and I must say it was SO tight! (like around my ankles, not cool). I had a pair back in '00-'02, then got a pair of Belmonts end of last season. I'm not diggin the Belmonts so I decided to try the Ultra's again. I ride in a lake that is still a bit cold (as in, not 70 degree water...yet), what should I do now if I can't break them in with warm water. It was pretty damn hard to get my feet out (the suction on the heels is pretty....well.....ultra [that was lame]), i'm not sure how much more I can loosen them...but I was gonna try that. DO you think that will help much? Or will it really be not too much help?
one more thing, the ankles were SUPER tight (lost circulation), but I think the foot could have been a little more tighter. IS there any way I can tighten one and loosen the other?
Thanks

| haven't had much success loosening bindings myself - just ride alot during the summer and lube up before you put em on. try soap - i know you aren't supposed to but it makes it alot easier to put em on if they are really tight. hope this helps |

Yeah, you can definetly tell a difference in the warmer water. But, I remember my fiance putting like bottles of something in the ankle area at night, the ankles were really tight on hers, too. She's gone to exo's for the lace up. For some, lace ups just fit better. If your loosing circulation, you may want to try getting some lace ups or a bigger size. _________________ www.MidwestMilitia.net |
