Goodmorning,
3 weeks ago I began to wakeboard and I'm loving it already. As there is no decent forum in the Netherland I subscribed here.
My wakeboard is an o'brien 137 (cm) and I have a fletcher arrowsport 150 with a Evinrude 90HP '99!
This video is the second time I wakeboarded in my life. Please feel free to comment! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1k2ii65atY
Hopefully I'll become as good as some of you I've seen here!
Next weekend the weather will be good in Holland so I'm definitely gonna board again. Because my and my friends never took any lessons we try to use the DVD from "The Book" as a guide.
Please forgive me for my poor English I'm trying....

| Yeah, that looked like some bad weather to be wakeboarding. A little choppy. But days like that are still good to practice surface tricks and all around board control, just stay in the wake of the boat. Also I noticed you really favored your heelside edge, it looked almost like you were just being pulled that way whether you wanted to or not. Try some minor adjustments in the bindings angles. |

Adjustments in which way? If have a goofy stand (rightfoot forward), my left foot is in a 90 degrees angle with the board and my right foot is almost in 90 degree (1 screw to the front if you know what I mean).
Thanks for your advise! _________________ Riding for the first season and LIKING IT!!!! |

Hoi dalmeijer, hoe is het ermee?
Where in Holland do you ride? There's plenty wakeschools there so I'd suggest taking a lesson sometime, before you start developing bad habits that are REALLY hard to get rid of and will hold your learning back.
Have fun! _________________ FlyZone Wakeboarding Costa Rica |

Hallo Flyzone,
Met mij gaat het goed!
I'm riding near amsterdam @ the IJsselmeer (IJssellake). Maybe I'll take some lessons there is a wakeboardschool in Amsterdam but for now I'm just trying.
Please give me some advise about my riding and the set-up for the bindings.
Will post some new vids after next weekend _________________ Riding for the first season and LIKING IT!!!! |

Most that I know that ride go with a 15/-15 degree ducked stance. From watching your video it looks like you are crouching over your board, lean back a bit against the rope. _________________

Yeah just play with different stances till you find what is most comfortable. I think anywhere from 15-20 is probably a good place to start though. And personally I've always made sure that they were both ducked at the same angle. It made learning to ride switch much easier. _________________

| "The book" suggests jumping as high as you can and then setting the boots at the angles your feet are in when you land. Make sure they're shoulder width apart. With both boots at almost 90 you were definitely favoring your heelside edge simply due to discomfort staying straight...most likely. |

For beginners I'd say it's better to have the back foot at 0 (all the way back at the board) and the front foot around 18-21 or so (also towards the back. The back of the front, y'know). When you progress put them towards duck, but NOT at 15 degrees. Too much and you'll Bubb Rubb up your knees. 12 or even better 9. IMO. _________________ FlyZone Wakeboarding Costa Rica |

everyone dose that there 1st time...(gets pulled out heelside) I found if you tell fist times to hold on only with there lead hand, they go straighter. looked chopy out there..good to see somone so pumped on the sport.
Angle is once again personal preference although most pros tend to have a
neutral/symmetrical stance so as not to favour one side more than the other; backward
should feel the same as forward. Symmetrical is best. There is no real switch stance, you
are either goofy or regular. You don’t want to be switching your upper body position, it is
only your feet that switch. The best way to determine how much angle to put on your
bindings is to find your natural stance (jump in the air landing on the ground – this is
your natural knee bend and probably to way you should ride). A little duck versus 90º is
good and physically natural. More duck past your natural stance will put more stress on
your knees and ankles during landings and falls and will affect your ability to turn your
hips and upper body. Finally, angle will affect your ability to edge, the more your feet
are turned out the less heel pressure you will be able to exert on your edge. _________________ Keep on shreddin -SouP- |

last weekend was fantasitc weather in Holland, also found a much quiter water to board. Also done the first real tooside slides and one-handed.
Was al little bit affraid about the switch because I landed pretty hard on my face last time (not doing a switch just lost control...)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_peTRawDBx4
According to "The Book" I should first pratice the switch and the cuffed position and the blind position now so hopefully next weekend good weather! _________________ Riding for the first season and LIKING IT!!!! |

Well let me say welcome to the forums Always good to find someone who has caught the bug. I agree that it was pretty rough water for learning, perhaps next time you go it will be smoother. Just get out and ride as much as you can and you'll learn better board control.
As mentioned earlier everyone constantly cuts heelside their first time out. It takes people a while to learn how to turn toeside back into the wake. It's just how it goes. If you can get out when it's smooth you won't have to dodge the waves coming at you
