I've got a friend looking at a 2006 24 SSV with the smaller engine option (325-350 HP range?). Think he'll be alright with this or should he look for one with the bigger engine? I said he'd probably be alright with the smaller option; however, I've never driven an SSV 24 so I wanted to be sure. He says the price tag is a steal but I don't know what it is exactly. It has 12 hours on it and was used by MasterCraft to scout the competition apparently so its basically brand new.

Thanks

Last summer I rode behind a 24SSV Worlds Edition and it had the 8.1L Indmar Assault 450hp. It was loaded down with 3k of ballast and it took alot of power to get it out of the hole.

You'd have to prop the hell out of that boat to be able to put much weight in it and get out of the hole. If he doesn't care about going much over 38mph, just reprop it in you should be ok.

That SSV I rode behind was spinning around 3500-3600 rpm at just under 24mph. You could almost watch the gas move.

If it has the 340Cat engine, I think it'd be fine, if it has the 325 it'd be a bit slow but nothing awful. I mean if he can save a ton of cash, he'll still be happy with it.

the 340CAT did not come out until 07'. I think the options then were a 325, 340 and the 8.1????
Depending on how you weight it you should be fine. There is more emphasis on a good prop nowadays anyway. I would think you would prefer the 340 or more, but you should be fine either way.
