Just getting back into wakeboarding after a fwe year hiatus and needed a setup. Got this one on CL for a good deal. My question is about the base of the board. It has what HL called a "Jib" base. I took it OWC last week, rode great, hit a few kickers. Going to hit some sliders next time. Just wondering if I am going to ruin the this board sliding, or will it slide at all. The base is almost gel like, and it seemed to get like scratched into on the kicker. Should I sell it and get another board before I mess it up at the park, or will be ok once I break it in. Also the bindings are VERY hard to get in and out of. I think the guy who sold it, never once rode it since '04. What do you guys think I should do? BTW Thought was if I sell it to Get a LF Trip and Index boots off ebay . Going to be doing a good amount of park riding, and don't have a lot of cash to throw at a setup.

Boots (especially with laces) shouldn't be THAT hard to get in to. The older models like what you have probably still have a rubber lining, which doesn't really help much. But if you can get your feet in and they don't hurt after a while you're probably fine. I'm not sure what you're talking about for the base of the board, haven't really heard of special 'slider bases' untill more recently.
Most wakeboards will actually last a while on rails/sliders even if they're not specifically built for them. The biggest problem you might see is edges separating, allowing water to get in and soften the core over time. If you only ride rails/ramps every once in a while, you'll be fine. If you ride obstacles more often, you WILL wear-down the base over time; the graphic will get messed up and will probably get some dings/holes in the molded-in fins. There's no real way around natural wear and tear. |

That is what I thought was weird, when I looked up the board on that link, the called it a jib base. Its almost like a soft laminate you can stick your finger nail in a little. I am going to see if it slides on Wednesday. If not I'll just sell it I guess and get something else... thanks |

| It'll slide. If you hit kickers without getting hung up, there shouldn't be a problem with rails. Plus if it has a 'jib base', it's meant for that type of thing. |

I had a feeling it will slide, its just after 3' or 4 kicker hits, its like a scratched more than a normal board would be. That's why I was questioning selling it before I scratched all through it, b/c jibbing in the early 90s was more like a quit hit than a 50 foot slide....I'll decide on Wed after just a few slider hits... thanks for some of the input guys, pays to have others thoughts. |

| the jib base is just a film that they put over the regular board. He's putting his fingernail into that film is all. The board itself isn't going to hold up any better than a normal board would, but the film will help to protect the bottom from getting too scuffed up. |

| I suspect it's the same kind of film they put on the front of newer cars if you request it. It's more for highway driven cars, stops rock chips and whatever else. kinda sucks to take that stuff off.... |

| Hit park today, slid fine on slider , but stopped dead on kicker half way, like there was glue on the bottom. Sold on CL today, as it is still a great boat board and didnt want to mess up. They did weird things 5-6 years ago |

| good call...For the record if you are doing primarily cable riding, it would be worth the investment to get a new (09-10) board with a slider specific bottom. I have an 08 watson with the regular bottom that after hitting tsr maybe 8 times, already has a crack in the tail and the molded fins are pretty much gone. I haven't had any bad crashes (knock on wood) that would have resulted in this. If I knew I was doing just cable riding I would immediately purchase one of the new LF boards with the grind/slider base. From what I've seen out at tsr, they are holding up extremely well. |
