I'm sure many of you have seen the learnwake video about learning hs backrolls by doing them outside the wake then in/out, one wake, and two wake. I'm curious if this type of approach would work just as good for other inverts (mainly load/release).
I always assumed people learned inverts by just attempting them over both wakes until they landed it. I mean would it be easier to learn a raley using the whole progression ladder strategy?? |

cross12920, There's really not much you can do for a raley as you need to just commit to them. I can't do em behind a boat but I can on cable (it's a LOT easier on cable) but even then you need to just go for it or you'll end up hurting yourself, haha.
If you're not comfortable going wake to wake, you really should work on your basics more before trying inverts. If you can't jump the wake consistantly, you're just going to end up frustrated. |

I've watched the video you're talking about, and I have never tried anything like that out in the flats. Then again, I haven't landed them wake to wake either. As far as low impact, I've not come anywhere close to the amount of trauma I get trying spins when I try inverts. It really is a mind over matter and being able to visualize what you're trying to do before you go for it. _________________

Thats how most do it bra... Just gotta man up and go for it. Im alot more of a flipper than a spinner, and can tell you one honest truth that I have come to find out when first trying new tricks.. Just commit man.. If you go all out for it, the falls you will take will be minimal.. Plus you will come alot closer than you expect (normally).. Its when you start a trick, then try to bail out half way through it, thats when you get the pain.. backroll, and tanny are two that if you commit to them ,you most likely wont take a very hard fall.. Along with r2r, sc, and Toebr. .02 _________________ www.blackwaterrydas.com |

Thanks for the input guys. The main reason I asked is because last year I put a nasty twist on my ankle trying a hs backroll and was pretty much done'skis for the rest of the year. So I've been trying it without the wake and off one wake a little bit.
I've always had really bad ankles from baseball so I'll just have to tape up before I go out from now on... My bindings seem like they should give me enough support ( '10 CWB Zeus) but I somehow still tweak my front ankle all the time... |

Invert falls hurt ALOT less than spin falls.
Think about it, when you fall on an invert, you are still going with the direction of the boat.
when you fall on a spin, you probably overrotated or underrotated and are gonna catch a nasty edge and die. _________________ Lake Shelbyville, IL |

| ugh, I hate catching edges. I find it's usually better for me to catch my front edge and faceplant though. The pain is greater at the time of impact but catching the back edge results in whiplash like pain that stay with me for weeks at a time. |

Enygma, I second that. At least you have a chance to duck on the faceplant. Slapping the back of my head nearly knocks me out every time. _________________
