Ok, I've been riding behind my buddies Mastercraft 195, which is obviously a little small. I think the wake is DECENT, but nothing to brag about and probably not the best to really get a wake that makes it EASY to do tricks off of.

2009 was my first year ever riding. I did OK. I didn't really progress much, but I did get HS W2W down pat. I *almost* landed a couple TS W2W's, but usually I just kinda chicken out. I'll have to just go for it it this summer and tackle it early on.

What I'd REALLY like to get better and understand are:

How to increase pop off the wake HS W2W.
What steps you take to do a 180 spin (I know I need to improve on riding switch for sure, so that when I land it, I'm good to go).
Surface tricks: olies, 180's, etc.
How to do an invert/roll/flip (My roomates bought a trampoline this week, that might come in handy I'm thinking!)

I own the book, but could really use some additional guidance. Also, I'm riding a liquid force PS3 with Transit bindings. I can get behind an X45 occasionally, but I hear that really isn't the best wake either. It seemed real steep..?

If there is anyone in the San Jose, CA area who wants to board. I'm almost always down unless its a race weekend (AFM/WERA).

get toeside w2w down, slow the boat down considerably and learn how to surface 180's, then do inside out 1's, then outside in 1's, then shorten the rope and speed up a little bit and repeat, then take it w2w on the short rope at slower speed, then ride regular length at your regular speed and repeat the cycle, easy to build confidence this way, and ride a session every time you go out if time permits, that should keep you busy for a few weeks, when you have that down slow it all back down and work on the toeside 1's, get all this and you will have a great foundation for everything else you will do

Last year was my first year wakeboarding too but I landed a few toeside W2W, so there!!!!!! Laughing

Kidding. I was planning on doing the same as you, I wanna have at least 1 invert and 360's down before the end of this season. as well as being comfy riding switch.

For some reason, out of all of that, I'd really like to figure out how to get some crazy pop off the wake. There has to be a trick to it.. I think it's pretty amazing seeing a guy 20 feet high landing way out in the flats.

I honestly think you can improve alot, IF you have the proper technique. Don't cheat and just throw crap. Learn the right way to wakeboard and then progression will happen pretty quickly.

Definetly get your TSW2W, then move to 180s, then 180 grabs, ollie 180's, inside/outside 180's, BS 180 and then go to 3's and inverts.

Yes, trampoline will come in handle if you want to learn inverts. I'm hoping to learn my first invert in June and I've been in tumbling for over a year preparing fo rit! Good Luck to you!

The more you ride the better and more comfortable on your wakeboard you will become. TS W2W REAL IMPORTANT notice the caps lock.

I agree with everyone. One thing I'd like to do over is go back and learn things in the correct order.

As for pop, you might try an ollie edge which will also benefit your spins. Take a hard cut in the seated position, then flatten off and stand tall in the trough. This has been my best friend this year. Very low line tension makes it easy to grab and spin, and it boots you up a lot more than a typical progressive edge. But... it still starts progressive, you just don't hold it through the wake.
