It should do fine for starting out. Look into the DVD called "The Book". There's some very good instructional information on that DVD series. _________________ If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular? |

Pulling up with an i/o off the ski hook can be more difficult. When the boat takes off it forces the tow point down into the water, putting the rope at a weird angle. I would suggest getting either a tower or pylon to raise the tow point, helps coming out of the water much easier.
That being said, here's some tips on getting up.
Roll on the throttle smooth, don't just jam it wide open like pulling a skier.
The best advice I ever got was squat like a frog on your board, and keep the board fully under water. If you are plowing water with the board and the rope is getting jerked ot of your hands you have the board to high in the water or leading edge is above the water line. If you are being pulled over you have the board to far under water line, once you find the sweet spot it'll come easy. Let the board slide sideways for a couple seconds longer then you think, I've seen so many edge catches from trying to flip the board forward to soon. I actually butter slide for a few seconds after I stand up and let the board flip forward on it's own.
x2 on the book, it has everything from how to drive to inverts _________________

| If the rider is new i will sometimes pull them a little with the boat, it just helps the rider balance in the water. For some riders they are always off balance before they even start cuz they are not used to controlling the board. So I will sometimes just slowly drag the rider until they are in control and then i hit it. Its almost like a rolling start. |

we have tried everything and we are also new so i think from the rope being that close to the water is the main problem i need to find a way to get the rope alot higher because i know that will help and is our main problem right now _________________ THE N3WB33 OF BOARDING |

You should be able to get up even with the low tow point. I learned to get up behind a bass boat so there was no way to get the rope up. One thing I always did that seem to help was not have the board completely perp to the boat. This is probably bad technique but it kept the rope from digging into the board and you can stand right up. Keep your back foot in the water and have the top corner of your board barely sticking out of the water as the boat begins to pull. 95% of your board should be under water just that small lead foot corner. Keep in mind this is kinda the blind leading the blind because I am a beginner also but I can get up with either foot forward very consistently. _________________

As was said above... Get "The Book"...
I have been wakeboarding on and off for 13 years.... I watched the beginer section with my wife (she was having a hard time getting up too) and I realized that,
1. all the instruction i gave her was wrong
2. Ive been getting up wrong all this time
She got up first try after watching it... |

That was quite possibly the worst explanation ever. _________________

I learned behind an I/O. I am still a newbie but will be willing to help out. Where do you boat? We boat Eagle Mountain. I can meet up with you to give some pointers. _________________ Troy

I learned on an 87 bayliner bowrider where the rope was basically hooked to the bottom of the boat. You can get up and do all sorts of fun stuff without a tower or pylon. Will it make getting up a little easier? Maybe. But honestly you're just fine without worry about buying an expensive pylon / tower. _________________ Today is a chance to become a greater person than the person we were the day before. |

Im guessing you were talking about your own explanation???
Seriously... go out and get "the book"... it will give you all the tips/instruction that you need to get up.... and you will find yourself watching it a couple times a year to remind yourself of the good habbits you need to get into.... well worth the $$$ |

Yes I was... One of those probably should have stopped and backspaced the thing away moments. This is what I should have said:
x4 for "The Book"
and Detention 2012 is good also. _________________

| I started with a V6 I/O. You can do it. Watch some vids on how to get up. Once you got it you will get up everytime behind any boat. Took us a few days to figure it out too. |

I started on a 1980 SeaRay 4 cylinder on a skurfer. It's one of those things that's a pain in the ass but once you get up it clicks and you'll pop right out everytime. You can make plenty of progression behind that boat without the need for any other accessories. Lots of practice.

| easy way to explain it sit in the water like your sitting in a chair with the board as your floor the board should be all but the toe edge out of the water just enough to see the rope run over the edge when the boat starts pulling you don't try to horse yourself up just let the boat pull you closer to the board till your like a frog sitting on the board when you feel you back start to come out of the water simply start to point your toes and you should come the rest of the way out then just stand up and your on your way.. i learned on my own behind a 96 bayliner ski hook pull so i know how frustrating it can be but don't give up you'll get it soon enough.. oh and "the Book" is definitely more then worth what you'll pay for it in experience and guidance |

I do pretty much exactly as tweeder said. but now I sometimes have fun with getting up like pushing the board way under water and kinda popping out. Sometime when I get up I just leave the board sideways for a while, nobody I ride with understand how I do it though.
One HUGE pointer I can give you, if you bought a cheapo board with 3 inch fins, take off the front fin. I did this for my mom and the board pulled itself into the proper position. Then I was able to put the fin back on and the movement was just kind of natural to her afterwards. Then we bought a nicer CWB and that made it even easier. |

The board can definitely effect the way that you get up, but I've noticed very little difference from a tow hook to a tower or pylon. Probably because I rode from a tow hook for so long, and still do from time to time. _________________
