Marius reviews?

I'm half-heartedly searching around for a new board for this upcoming season and I've had my eye on the Marius's for a couple seasons now.

I have NEVER owned a CWB board before so I'm curious about opinions on them in general as well as input on the Marius in particular. I'm looking at the 140 and I'm also very curious about the benefits of the platinum cores. I don't intend to use it for anything but wake-riding if that helps.

I'm on a Shane 136 right now and have really enjoyed it. I tried the new Watson 139 over the weekend, but it was so cold and I was so out of shape that I couldn't really get a feel for it.

Any thoughts?

Im getting a new Marius 134 hopefully by the end of the week.... I have been riding a premier 136 for the past 7 years and got a job with a cwb dealer so Im gonna try this board out.... Ill definitely let you know what I think of it

I dont ride a Marius but do ride an 08 absolute. The board is built well adn their customer support is great. I am able to call them up if my laces messed up or anything else. I ride Zeus bindings. I have had the board for 2 years and no complaints. It is a 141 and still rides perfect. I rode an 06 pure before I bought the 08 and we still have that as a beginner board. It has held up well. I think the platinum is lighter but easier to crack. I think that is why CWB has strayed away from platinum now. I think they have some other core now.

I have also heard that the platinum, being stiffer, rode much rougher. It seemed to be much less forgiving in any kind of chop. Don't know from experience. That is just what I was told when I was debating between platinum or not when I ordered an 09 Transcend. I went with the regular, mostly because of cost and there seemed to be strong support that it is the better board anyways.

The Marius is a different board. Off the wake its rocker wants to carry you out into the flats but its width wants to pop you up up up. For such a wide board it is incredibly smooth rail to rail and has a great feel on the water. Personally I thought it felt like there was too much board. Some really like it, I prefer the hard pop of the Absolute or even better, the Transcend.

As for Platinum, it does shed some weight and definitely makes the board a little more poppy. After riding platinum Absolutes I went with foam boards because they do land softer and just seem more controlled on the water. Can't go wrong with either.

As for CWB as a whole, like mentioned, their customer service is second to none and the products are sweet. Been riding them exclusively for 6 years and couldn't be happier.

I own a Marius 140 and really like it. I think it is an 07, I bought it used and just been riding for less than one year. It is very slick/loose with out the center fins which I like, easy to do surface tricks. and it lands very smooth. I recommend the Marius.

Anyone by chance have a connection or know of a place online to get a new 09 (or newer lol) marius 140 for under 300? Seems really hard to find the 140 around that price range.

Free shipping, no tax. I think that's as close as you're going to get. They didn't change the shape in '10 so the '09 is still in high demand.

Evogear had a deal where they were offering 20% off their outlet boards the last week. Ended up getting the 140 platinum for $279. Not particularly excited about the platinum, but they didn't have the regular core in a 140.

Guess we'll see how it goes /shrug.

Finally got to take mine out for the first time yesterday...... I loved it.... I had been riding a premier for 6 years and this board kills it..... It has super smooth transitions on its edges...... very smooth transition through the wake but with tons of pop off the top of the wake..... The continuous rocker and double spines on the bottom definitely make for smooth landings and easy pop on ollies..... I was worried that riding with just the small molded fins set so far down the board would make it squirrely but it locks in hard when set it on the right edge..... I understand now too how Trevor can just drift into the wake and still get tons of pop...... overall a great board with tons of pop, soft landings and very smooth edges
