Hey first post. woo!

I was given an '05 144cm CWB Factor and I am looking for a new board. I have been riding it for about two years and am about 50% on wake-to-wake and I can pull surface 180's inside of the wake and ride switch. I have not ridden seriously it was just a hobby and I am looking to get serious and for a board that will allow me to get past the beginner stage. I would like to stay within the 0-550$ range but if I need to get a board that is a bit more I will. I don't have much knowledge on what board to look for so I come to this community for answers

I am 6'3 195 and have been told that the 144 is to big for my size and I have looked up some info and seen that a 144 may be too big of a board for me.

Any ideas or comments would be appreciated.

You could go with a 139 probably, but I wouldn't go any smaller. I'd look for a 141 or something like that.

For your price range you can get whatever board your want Laughing

I recommend the Lyman. I recommend it, because thats what I ride, and I absolutley love it. Havn't rode many other boards, so I can't really compare it to anything for you.

Go to your shop or something, and see if they will let you demo some boards.

Thanks for the suggestion TnR6Rida. I will look into this board. any ideas on a specific type of binding? I have '05 CWB Hinge tech bindings. They are getting worn out. what bindings do you have with the Lyman?

mobywake, That $550 budget, is that including the bindings or not?

I have the 2008 model Lyman with 2007 Watson CT bindings.

I don't think the shape of the Lyman has changed or anything since 08, so its still basically the same board, just different graphics.

If you want to save a little money just buy a last years model board 09, and then that way you will have more money to spend on some nice bindings too. I would definitely upgrade bindings. Binding technology has come a long long way since 05. Check out the Watsons, I really like them. Check out Ronix's line up, everyone says they are really comfy. I would go with closed toed bindings, but thats more of a personal preference thing.

+1 for ronix bindings!! but check out this set up.. a couple of my buddys already bought it and its suppose to be the best selling package this year.. 2 pro riders are using the board...

http://www.boardstop.com/product_info.php?products_id=4356&ref=35

board is 350 by itself and bindings are 300 by thereself so 650 dollar package for 500 bucks.. cant beat it.. but u can basically get anything u want with ur price range..

check out my post i did on best board for 2009 or 2010 it has alot of pictures of them just so u can look...

Yeah personally I weigh 190 and I'm happy with the 142 / 143 size range. That's actually my old lyman TnR6Rida linked. Not gonna lie I'd be a happy camper if you picked it up Wink

Anyways I'd say you'd be pushing it if you went 139 I'd personally stay at 141 and above as a general rule of thumb but every board is different.

And def no doubt those shane's listed in the classifieds right now are a sick deal. I want to buy them but then again I'm poor Wink

Great links guys I appreciate the help.

Another question though: Is it preference on what board to get or are there certain boards made for certain styles of riding? I would like to find a board that is somewhat of a hybrid and allows me to advance in all directions of boarding.

Personally I don't think the 144 is too large for you. That is the trend these days, riding a larger board, it helps with landings and gives you more edge. Personally I'm 5'8", 150lbs and I ride a 138, I couldn't imagine anything smaller than that and regularly ride a 142 as well. I've got friends that are my size that prefer the 144 and they rip.

I'm not sure what board you are presently riding as I've never heard of a 144 CWB Factor from '05. Sure about that? I was going to suggest the new Faction 144 or the Transcend 142, they are CWB and they both rock.

Since you are in the Fort Worth area I'd go see Jeff at Innov8. He sells CWB & Hyperlite and will let you demo his gear. He is also the dude doing the new cable park out in Cresson, always good to support a guy that supports the sport. http://www.innov8actionsports.com/

Mistake on my part. I am pretty sure it is an '06. And I checked out the 142 transcend platinum by CWB that Stephan mentioned and like the looks. Than again I have never ridden it so any comments on the board would be great!!!

I found some pics of a board and bindings that look like they would work. What do you guys think?

The Transcend is a great board and it will definitely not hold you back. The Platinum version means that it is 1 pound lighter and is stiffer than a traditional foam board. Some prefer the snappiness of the Platy, but I prefer the foam version. CWB stopped the Platinum cores after '09. For the extra $ I don't think its worth it. If prices were the same I'd suggest the '09 foam version, they tweaked the shape and I much prefer the 09/10 versus the 07/08 shape.

As for those boots, they are decent. If you are looking for a boot that fits multiple sized then that is what you've got. If you want a CWB boot that is more fitted look at the Answer or Faction, they in 08/09 they are very similar, with the Faction being open toed and the Answer being closed. More support, better feel and friendly to your footsies.

It sounds like you are riding the first year Faction board. I ride the same board and will tell you that it's not going to hold you back from progressing. It's a great board that you can do anything on. Mine is the 144 also and I like the size. I'm 200lbs and find that it's just right for me.

pickles, in 06 CWB did have a board called the Factor. It was based on Rob Struharik's pro-model Prodigy shape.

well maybe I should just look into getting some new bindings and ride the 144 for another year. My bindings now are kinda loose and they are a few years ridden already. I could save some money in the process and get a new board later.

Brainstorming is great!

The board you have is not a terrible shape, the new boards are probably better but a wakeboard is a wakeboard. I definitely think comfortable supportive bindings are just as (if not more) important than the newest board.

What I used to do is each year I'd get a new piece of equipment. So one year I'd get a new board, the next a new set of boots, the next a new board and so on. That way you always have gear that is always pretty dang new and costs are spread out.

I have narrowed my choice down to two different boards. If anyone has any personal experience on either please share as I will be purchasing in the next month or so.

CWB 142 Transcend '08 or '09

Liquid Force 142 Watson Classic '08 or '09

watson classic is only in 2010.. unless ur just talkin about a regular 2008 or 2009 watson board.. but watson classic is new this year.. white on top one.. 09 is black on top..

but go with watson..just my opinion..

Having ridden both I prefer the Transcend, but to each his own. If you could demo each it would be much better. Hard to go wrong with those shapes. A friend that rides the Watson hopped on my board and was shredding right away.

I can get you a 2009 Shane 142 for $160. What size bindings do you have? Call my friend Michael at TRC Yachtsales here in Chattanooga at 423 838 8122. He's got a bunch of leftover Liquid Force gear.
