I think people such as cameraboy, microman (all the usual suspects) should forfeit all Christian holidays out of basic priciple and go to work.

Laughing

I agree.

Why do we celebrate this day if we aren't a "Christian" nation anyway?

I for one, love the celebration of the rise of zombie Jesus. Followed by that wonderful Christian tradition of worshiping a giant bunny who lays chocolate eggs.

The Easter Bunny is a Christian tradition? Since when? I've never been taught that nor did I ever check into it. I always accepted the Easter Bunny as a non-Christian holiday.

I believe he was the 13th disciple. I think it's somewhere in the back of the Bible.

I thought the Easter Bunny actually was the author of a book of the Bible that is only published in certain versions of the Bible. Kinda like that 5th Gospel or whatever it is...

I don't get Good Friday off, but did get MLK. So I guess my company is anti-Christian more than it is racist. Interesting.

I am taking off Monday for Texas Rangers opening day!

I agree, I wish I could work today. Oh wait, I DID!

I don't particularly think that an event of human sacrifice as penance as a prerequisite for sanctified forgiveness for us awful, sinful, terrible, human creation should ever be celebrated. The context of Easter is immoral and disgusting.

Don't you think that an all-powerful being would be able to just forgive us without the blood sacrifice?

Ahhh, the logic of Yahweh! I think I'll sacrifice myself to myself to save you from....myself!

I think that all my acts of forgiveness from now on will require a ritualistic blood sacrifice, then maybe I can get some blind fools to worship me too. But then again, I am vastly more moral than the God of the Bible, so I'll just stick to genuine face-to-face forgiveness. Laughing

Everyone only likes Easter because of the candy, honey hams, and the fact that lent is over so everyone can begin "sinning" again. Haheehoo

You know what I like about Easter? Its that because of a sacrifice from someone I never met that lived thousands of years ago I am compelled to love you just like I do my sister. That means as much as we probably wouldnt get along personally you would allows have a place to rest at my house, a hot plate of food and a sympathetic ear. If you are truly "moral" then I doubt you cant find a way to appreciate or respect that...

No, I never respect blood sacrifices. They are immoral. I do not need a blood sacrifice to compel me being good to other people. Secular humanism buddy.

Let's say that someone did something horribly atrocious to me to make me mad like poor poor Yahweh. If I were to sacrifice my son in order to forgive them, what would you think of me?

Someone that has a brain in their head: Why didn't Porter just forgive them? That is disgusting.

Christian: Wow, Porter truly is a moral person, just like Yahweh! This inspires me to treat other people with love and respect. I think I'll give someone food now.

You think that a blood sacrifice compels you to treat other people good? That's an absurd proposition. This just shows how absolutely brainwashed people are to actually think that this blood sacrifice was moral and inspiring. By accepting Yahweh's actions during Easter you would have to accept my act of blood sacrifice as one of the most moral things I could ever do.

I also highly doubt you love me like you love your sister. Don't be so deluded.

I can already see the response:
Porter, you're not Yahweh! What he did was out of love!

Exactly, whatever Yahweh does is moral to you, no matter how disgusting it. Come little sheepy, come follow me, but don't stray too far and use that brain of yours. Leave that blindfold on little sheepy.

Speculation on my emotion and a plea for change? Pretty weak man.

Whatever happened to me? You mean when I started thinking rationally about how the whole thing is stupid, immoral and disgusting? Better start praying hard for me since you love me so much. Laughing I'll help!

Porterwake's Creed, say it every night before bed!

"Dear Lord, my brother that I love dearly, porterwake, does not find your blood sacrifice for our sins or many of your other acts moral. Please make him understand that your placement of the deceptive talking snake in Eden, the slavery and murderous Jewish laws, the flooding and mass murder of the world, the genocidal biblical warfare of Moses and Joshua at your command, and the blood sacrifice for our sins which are contextualized by the Old Testament were all moral and loving. Please guide him on the right path so he can begin worshipping you as I do without questioning your actions. I know they weren't stupid because I follow no matter what and he should too. Amen."

Yeah right, I'll be busy not worshipping a blood sacrificing, inept, disgusting, imaginary deity. I sure hope I can get past this one day. Very Happy

Porterwake, after reading your post and pondering it, I would think you would be all for celebrating Easter instead of denouncing it, based on your stance.

I am a christian, by the way.

I took a nice 3 hour motorcycle ride to buffalo to commemorate the killing of god's son.

I agree with porterwake about the blood sacrifice thing. I "think" and "believe" that Jesus was the son of god (though I don't know what that means for sure) and that he came to teach us how to live in auch a way as the evils and hardships that plague our societies would be nonexistent.

Much like today, we largley ignored him and killed him. I think that christ died BECAUSE of our sins and he forgave us. I think that the blood sacrifice thing is an invention after the fact.

Either that, or humanity was still at such a savage point that they had a primitive mentality that would not understand forgiveness without a sacrifice, and do God had to play down to our stupidity.
