Holy schit! That's nasty. I'd be so pissed. You have to be really incompetent to run over a rider.

I dont even know how you run someone over like that on a pick up but it pisses me right off. I mean cmon, how does that EVEN go down. I confused the brake with the accelerator and confused left with right? How fricken baked or drunk WAS the driver anyway?

Well as a rider I never kick my feet under the boat, someone would literally have to try to run me over for that to happen. Wonder what the full story is. From the swim platform you have to get past the rudder and everything to touch the prop. Im glad he still has his leg. Hope he has a speedy recovery!

This question has been asked of him on fb and the answer he has given is no spotter and inexpeirenced driver so..............?

I read from that quote that he/she obviously wasnt watching or going to fast or.....? i dunno but its bad news non the less.

Possible put in reverse? could'nt stop? Thats what im sort of reading in to it from the pics and info.

Wow, he's lucky to still have that leg. I have met more than a few people over the years that have had a limb cut off by a prop. He's a lucky, lucky man.

More than a few??? I mean I've heard of it happening but knowing multiple people that have had it happen to them is crazy! What is it you do for a living that makes these encounters so common??

Wow, glad he still has his leg. It could have been much worse. Seems like purely bad driving to be able to do that.

How did he manage to get his leg under there. Anyways I never back up into picking some one up, I usually come by slowly and cut the engine so I stop right by them.

WHAT THE Bubb Rubb!!!

Seriously. I have driven 2 times to pull my buddy's arround and i was scared to death to hit them so i always kept huge distant. Approach them only from the driver seat side ect...

I would be really pissed. I hope he can normally walk later... hold fast!

He got ran over by a nautique!?!?! Was the driver borderline retarded because you literally have to get run over for that to happen on a wakeboard boat. If it were an i/o i could see this happening with an inexperienced driver but with a wakeboard boat??? I mean you just have to...turn

i dont think you need a spotter for picking someone up.

If you run over the guy in the water or even get the prop close enough to them to hurt them, you're a tard.

How many ropes have you guys cut? Personally I've only cut 1 in 20 years of boat driving but a rider could have been in the same spot I ran over the rope and it could have been much worse. My rope cut occurred when I took a wake broad side from another boat and was pushed over the top of the rope at an idle.

Here's my theory on this situation... and this is a huge guess not knowing the whole story

1) Rider falls and "stands" on the board under the water with only chest and head above water.
2) Drive power turns the boat to return to rider.
3) Drive is going to fast back over own wake and doesn't realize how close they are to downed rider.
4) Boat plows through wake and gets knocked off amateur drivers intended course and heads directly at rider.
5) Rider tries to back stroke out of way and driver turns wheel away from rider.
6) Stern of boat swings towards rider as rider's legs surface.
7) Crunch, scream, 911, hospital, stiches = lucky son of a b!tch

The early 90's inboards all had a very small swim platform. My 92' Nautique was small enough that I could get my foot on the prop and still have my chest and head out of the water.

Oh... hope the guy recovers quickly. I also hope he learns to teach his new drivers more then the basic forward, reverse, and steering wheel! Situational awareness is huge on the water since there aren't designated lanes seperated by concrete barriers.

In my experience with newb boat drivers..... A lot of them do not anticipate that when you turn a boat, especially at idle speed, the stern is going to swing around.... I had my friend run the whole back section of my supra along the pointed front of a pontoon boats pontoon.... left a good gash about an 1/8 inch deep and about a foot long.... all because he didnt realize the back end would swing so much when he made the turn.... Lucly guy to still have a leg though..... thats gonna be one bada$$ scar too...

*exactly*

As far as running over a rope accidentally. It's a little different because the riders head is sticking out of the water. Lines don't stick out of the water and you just need to know you aren't running over where you guess that they are.

No matter how experienced you are.. that is just plain silly. I would have to bet it was him turning the wrong way. OMG I GOTTA GET AWAY FROM HIM, *crunch crunch*

That's nuts. Glad he'll be OK. Man, you have to WORK at it to run somebody over w/ an inboard... been driving them since I was ~8 (now over 30) and I've never even heard of anybody getting cut by the prop...

That's amazing. The boat should have had a prop cage to protect him? Give me a break. You know how the boat is designed you know you can technically get run over. Just like when you buy coffee from a fast food place you cant sue if you spill it on yourself because it was too hot.

Some people just p*ss me off. This is how Americans get a bad rep. Idiots like this.

This is all second and third hand so don't take it for gospel but the story I heard was:
The boys were riding triples behind the boat (3 riders - 3 ropes), the driver was one of the guys girl friends, never driven before and no spotter in the boat, unwillingly she is convinced to drive them. The place they were were riding runs a strong current 5-6 mph and it is quite narrow and takes a few changes of directions in places. The boys fall, she drives up to retrieve one of the guys and gets a little close, swings the wheel, the rider pushes off the side at the back and his legs come up from the side and hit the prop. He didn't know he was hit until 20 seconds later and the blood started flowing. Shortly after the ropes were around the prop and the boat was rendered immobile.

So go easy on drivers fault part the boys put her in a terrible position and the "accident waiting to happen" happened. Hard lesson learnt, no body was killed but easily could have been. To lump all the blame on the driver misses the point, everybody in the boat needs to take responsibility for safety, good times can turn bad in the blink of an eye.
