I just had a stereo system put in my new boat...I have four interior speakers powered by a 4-channel amp and 2 tower speakers powered by a 2-channel amp, no sub, all connected to standard jbl deck. I brought the boat home off of the lot stereo worked fine. as I was putting stuff in the boat the next day I was listening to the stereo. Later I noticed only the tower speakers were working and could not get the interior speakers to work, tried all the standard fade, balance, etc. Here i where it gets weird. When the stereo is powered on the tower speakers were working just fine you could see that the 2-channel amp was on but the 4-channel amp was off. When I powered the stereo off the 2-channel amp shut-off and for some reason the 4-channel amp turned on and stays on. I tried every setting on the stereo deck and even reset the deck, same thing, i tried switching between batteries, same thing. I called the stereo shop and they said it is probably low batteries - I am charging them right now but I doubt that is it, I literally just took the boat from the dealer. I can take it to the stereo shop and they will fix it, but it is a 100 miles away and don't really want to make that round trip if it is an easy fix. Anybody with a thought? |

I am not by any means a stereo guru and your problem does seem pretty wierd but my guess would be
A. Batteries like the stereo shop suggested
B. Something to do with your remote wire to the amps. |

I thought maybe the wires too, but I checked them and they are all perfect. It has to be something simple, hoping the batteries, because absolutely nothing was changed or touched, one minute working the next it was acting up. |

bjeremi's suggestions are the first things that I would check. Do you have a volt meter? I would check the voltage at each amp's power inputs, and also check and make sure that the remote turn on is seeing voltage when the deck is on. All of them should read 12v (or very close to, ~14 if the alternator is charging the battery).
It does seem strange that the 4 channel amp would turn ON when you power off the head unit.
I'm with the stereo shop ... your batteries are probably too low. |
