|
|
i just need some advice on this, so i know to take them off or not.. i had someone tell me on the forum that it causes so boards to crack.. i have a bad insert on my back foot and its the first hole on the inside.. so i cant go all the way out and the only way i can take off the adapter is if i go narrower with my stance which i really dont want to do.. any help would be nice? idk if this actually is going to cause it to crack but figured i would ask.. thanks!
i attached a picture showing were the bad insert was.. i have 2 holes on the inside left on 2 on the outside..
I would rather not mess with it, if its not going to crack but if you know anyone that uses adapters and its fine on the board let me know..

Every major board company makes the adapters.. Ronix, LF and CWB all have an extendo type clamp. Will they warranty bindings from another brand? I bet in the policy they do not but I have not had any experience with extended clamps causing problems.
In your situation since you bought the board as a blem I would suggest riding it at the stance you need. You got a deal on the board and you bought it to ride it so ride at the comfortable stance. I would make sure that the extended clamps are always tight. I have seen problems with boards when there is play between the binding clamp and the board so always make sure they are tight. Not over tight but tight so there is NO play.

| ya I mean I don't see how it cud cause it to crack but u never know. the board was only 235 because of the one bad insert so I got a heck of a deal but there was a guy on the "2010 post your setup pictures" that was telling me that it will cause the board to crack so idk.. it's on the 2nd page of that topic if you want to read what he says.. I just wanted to ask others to see if they knew anything about this..

bridges, We used to demo Ronix boards and boots exclusively at OWC, and a lot of kids would use the adapter to go wider than the recommended stance. At first you can notice the top sheet starts to squeeze a little water out around the insert, and soon after that the boards would break directly underneath that adapter. I've got 3 broken bill boards here at my house that are all broken in the same spot, right underneath those adapters. After we quit letting kids use them on our rental boards, the problem went away. I'll see if I can get some pics that show where they all broke.
What's wrong with your insert? can you just not get a screw into it? if that's the case, go to a hardware store and buy a 1/4" tap, spray some lube into the insert, and run the tap through a few times. That should let you get a screw into it. If the insert is already stripped, there's really not much you can do.

| ya the insert is completley screwed.. there is even a little metal spike thing were u wudnt be able to put anything in.. so I'm guessing better to go a little narrower than risk cracking my board?

| i mean im not going to use it on sliders or anything like that just purley wake2wake stuff and flat water tricks.. the stance its at is not out farther then the reccomended stance for me. i can see how it my cause it to break if i was constantly using it on sliders and coming off kickers or other things like that.. i think im just going to leave them on and make sure there tight all the time and i mean if it breakes then guess im SOL and il be out 235 bucks.. but there are plenty of people that crack there boards just be riding them and landing tricks i got a buddy that rides for the baylor wake team and he has cracked a few by just going wake 2 wake.. but guess its the price you pay to have fun and board.. o well.. i appreciate your help though thanks!

bridges, i'm not sure about this but wouldn't the extenders on your 6" plated ronix bindings just virtually be like putting a 7" plated ronix bindings on your board? so if those extenders really crack boards, then it would somehow follow that wider plated bindings (7" or 8") would do the same, right? seems unlikely if you ask me.
or if you really want to be sure about it, try to D.I.Y. a washer large enough to spread out the screw's pressure across a bigger area around the inserts, that should prevent cracking around the inserts.

i only have the extender on the inside.. i only need it on my back foot but i put it on my front foot to that way it would match up and look right..
i think this is what he is talking about causing the cracking of the board.. sorry i just did a quick thing in paint real fast...
pulling up off the board putting all the pressure on the area coming up and this pushing the screw down causing it to crack? correct? but the other screw on the other side of the boot is directly into the board no spacer so i think since that is on there normal it wouldnt allow as much pressure going directly to the spacer.. i think its gunna be ok cuz this board has the ridges in the board and the nova core inside and covered with gamma glass so its super strong.. if it cracks then il just have to buy a new one..
cant do anything else because if i move it in its just gunna be real un comfortable and cause alot of stress on my knees and having knee surgery a year ago id rather keep as much pressure away from them as possible lol

exactly what i was trying to point out, the bindings out there with 7" or 8" plates are spaced out that much, just like putting extenders. anyways, just ride it. if it breaks, it breaks. you've gotten the board for a steal anyways!
