Time to finally put some tower speakers onthe boat

I was at the boat show and was talking with the Bullet Tower Speakers guys. I was going to put the 7 inch JL speakers on the boat with the external Tweater on the side and talking with the Mobile Sounds guy he said I should look at his Compression Horn Technology as they blow away the JL's according to him.

Anyone have any experience with the Compression Horn Tech? Do they project better behind the boat. They're around the same price as the JL's, I'm also open to suggestions as well.

Thanks

HLCDs are the way to go for tower speakers. Bullet, wetsounds, nvs, exile all make awesome hlcd speakers. People at WW all have good things to say about the hollow points.

Check out the internal wiring on the exiles.

dirtysparks,

They are a Bullet can with the companies Speaker inside. Mobile sounds here in Calgary and the story they spun sounded pretty good. The Bullet cans look like they're top notch, I have no problem with them.

HLCD? school me on that....

HLCD = Horn loaded compression drivers, same thing your audio guy was talking about. That's what all the heavy hitters in the tower speaker industry are producing. They project the sound by directing the speaker output through a horn...from what I understand anyway.

Exile explains it much better than I ever could.

I would go with wetsounds. I've had three sets of 485's and many of my friends have had pro 80's and pro 60's. Wetsounds' stuff holds up in the elements and outperforms anything I've ever heard.

Also, the customer service offered by WS is amazing. Call up there and you can speak to an engineer in about 2 seconds who will walk you though any issues you may have with installation / setup / dialing in your amps, etc.

Got a hold of Exile directly, and have never had better customer service. These guys were just great! Answered all of my questions and then some, even went so far as to evaluate what was already in the boat (Clarion) and help me determine the most cost effective use, and layout for the new setup. Multiple phone calls and E-mails, pictures, etc.

Between the excellent customer service and that sweet quick disconnect design I was sold. Needless to say I ordered a set of XM7's, and they hooked me up with a sweet discount on an Amp to power em'.

Will put up some pics when I get everything up in the next few weeks! Cool

Earmark Marine is running a special on Bullet Hollowpoints, JL Amps Polk coax speakers, , and Exile speakers. Decent deals to be had plus 15% off all non-promo items. They also carry Wet Sounds as well as many other brands. The special goes through the end of March so you better hurry.

You aren't gonna find better sound at wakeboard rope lengths than HCLD's. If you can't afford any of the above, the Kicker KMT6 tower speakers are a real good compromise for the money. They can be found of eBay for $250-400 (retail $500). Power them with a Kicker 450.2 amp or equivalent and your good to go. You won't be as loud as a true HCLD, but you can hear them pretty clear at rope length and for the price that ain't bad.

With this horn type design. Does it focus the sound more out and away from the boat so that the people in the boat aren't deaf while going across the lake?

Walb0244,

I would say it def helps projecting the sound out of the boat as to not drown everyone out. You really just don't need to have your stereo as loud for the rider to be able to hear the music. They are pretty damn nice. Wetsounds is going to be the most popular but if you want to go cheap head over to bulletlines.com. He's had some specials in the past where people on here and been able to buy a set of the 6.5's for about $200 and a set of the 8" for $250. Thats without cans but those can be gotten for cheap as well. I don't think he has them on sell for quite that cheap anymore but I am sure if you email him he might be able to hook you up with some sort of discount.

boarding007 on ebay I think. He can sell you a pair of the krypt audio 6.5" hlcds for $224 + shipping. Unless they're on sale that's as cheap as you're going to get. If you have the coin, wetsounds are THE way to go. But if you're on a budget, you'll be impressed with the bulletlines HLCDs.
