Well, not really...but I did have a next level thing happen today. Received a message from the Hockey Trustee of the High School that the Little Man will attend, asking if he is planning on attending there(1.5 years from now) and if so, does he plan on playing Hockey for them this coming year as a freshman(still Jr. High here).
Long and short of it is he has been invited to start up with them in May(assume they do some type of league play?).....
I called the Little Man from work to let him know....he seemed really stoked & half worried about the commitment.... Not to mention the jump in talent, which will be significant....
It is nice to watch your child blossom. That seems enhanced that it is happening at the same place that I made my way. Anyway, it is not a huge deal.....but it just made me smile.....
Man I am getting old.....

That is great stuff - Hockey is a great sport to play for your school....at least it is in NH.
He might lose his size advantage but the skills will come real quick since he has been playn for such a long time already.
I assume the school has one squad with no Jr varsity if so even better for him.
It's every kids dream out this way to play for BU, BC, UNH, Maine, or any of the other hockey power houses.
Who knows he could end up going to college on the East Coast..
The sport can take him places if he plays his cards right.
Plus chicks love hockey players!!!
I'm proud for you. it's good stuff when your seed turns out to be a quality product!! LOL

freerider4, Just house.....
J_DOGG, I think the jump in competition will be very beneficial. I stay out of his athletic life other than fan support/financial, but the kid could use a competitive fire lit under his a$$..... He will get an up-close look at what it is like to fight for your place in the food chain. I have no doubt that he is up for the challenge.
There is a JV team. No aspirations, just having fun.... This is what he likes to do, so it is what he does.... Better spending time on the ice, than in front of a television/computer.... Plus, there is the bonus of being a hockey player....

like hoops in indiana or kentucky and football in tx or ohio. high school hockey is one of the few things i miss about that state.
very cool ej - so awesome to see your kid do well, and have others recognize that!

There is something to say about scholarships and free tuition.

....Though that would be cool....fact it, it is really a non-factor. He is not some prodigy....just a solid hockey player.
Playing D1 hockey is a Mid-West/East Coast thing.... There are VERY FEW kids that ever move to the next level from the West.... VERY FEW. Usually those kids move to the East in HS to compete against better competition. That would SUCK not to have him around during his HS years...
That is not to say that hockey isn't getting better. States like California and Texas appear to be making big strides....
Sort of related, but this past weekend I had one of my favorite moments while being a parent in the stands and it had nothing to do with a single accomplishment on the ice. There were a pack of High School hockey players sitting close to us watching the other team.
I overheard one of them commenting to the bunch on the Little Man and where he would be playing HS Hockey. "See 13....." That type of stuff makes a Dad beam....

EJ
congrats to your boy.
The west is progressing nicely in terms of producing hockey players. Our South-Western states seem to be getting more recognition for this day by day.
I've seen a few buddies leave for the east during high school and while it does wonders for their development it's a bummer to see your buddy go.
Hopefully your boy can stick around and still do good things. That way you dont have to fly everyweekend to see him play.

Thought I would share this article. It is about the Trustee who contacted me last February when I made the original post. I was actually the person who called 911 after the accident. I knew right when I saw the fall that it was not good.
I feel fortunate to have known Dave for the time that I did. The planet lost a great man on the 1st....

That's a tough deal.
A former coworker died last winter after slipping on ice and hitting his head outside his house.

| I saw a girl break her neck like that while I was stretching outside the locker room before a game. She just took a spill while freeskating and it just happened to be terrible. Also I am sure he will have a great time playing with the older guys. You don't get better as a player until you play up, so it should be great for him. He's lucky to be big too, when my buddies and I did spring league with the high school team in 8th grade some of my good friends got crushed a bunch of times. Just remind him to go and play hockey and not worry about anything else.

E.J., cool stuff. Hockey is a helluva lot of fun to play or share with your son.
