Hello!
Newbie from Bahrain checking in.
I was checking out Wikipedia's entry on wakeboarding, after checking this site out thoroughly of course, and noticed the riding section says "If a person is taller than 6'3" and weighs more than 230lbs, it is physically impossible for them to wakeboard." Thank goodness I did not read this a while back. I would have been more discouraged. I am not quite 6'3". I am 5'8" and ~260, but I still think this statement is nonsense.
It took me a quite a few tries to wakeboard but now I am practicing my edges, and learning to cross the wake without wiping out.
I am riding a Liquid Force Trip 146, with CWB Torq Bindings. I am 44 years old, and I am thrice divorced (Well, not really about the divorces). Lol, my board is so big it does not fit in my trunk. Hopefully I will drop a few lbs and get a smaller board but for now I like my setup.
/Cheers, JP |

I am glad you did not let Wikipedia keep you out of wakeboarding. I have seen bigger guys than you wakeboard. Keep riding and stay off Wikipedia. _________________ Wakeskating

I am just big boned, lol.
But I am out in the water wakeboarding, and not standing on the shore feeling sorry for myself, so that's a good thing. |

Posterchild, Welcome to the world of wakeboarding. Keep at it. you'll shed some pounds for sure. I started at age 36 and weighed about 250, now 4 years later I'm trimmed down to 220 and I'm in better shape then I was at 30. Props for not letting some stupid interwebs crap deter you from doing what you want. _________________

lol, thats hilarious!! Im a big boy too... 6'1 220 ish (usually closer to 210 during the riding season) I consider myself to be pushing pretty hard though.. Dont ever let something or someone tell you you cant do something.. Thats the kinda crap that motivates me to prove them wrong _________________ www.blackwaterrydas.com |

Man I just looked at the wakeboarding entry on wikipedia...thats pretty awful. A good amount of wrong info, some useless info, and written like its talking about rollerskating or tubing. |

Whew, I'm exactly 6'3" and 230 lbs. I just barely squeaked in or else it would be impossible for me to wakeboard. _________________ Hilton Head Wake Sports.com

I always wondered why my kids teachers frown on them using Wikipedia as a reference, now I know...
I registered as a wikipedia person just to call "bs" on this one, however me being a noob I know I am not the right person to fix that page up. |

wow, wikipedia is dead wrong! It took me a few tries to get up, but I board and I am the biggest person that I can think of that can get up. I am 6'4" and weigh 292 lbs. Funny thing is though, when I first got up on my board, I was 340 lbs. I can board so much better now! I have only boarded for one season but hopefully many more to come.
Oh and it does help that I ride a pretty big board. I ride a 146, but I bet I can get up on a 142 now. |

Awhile back I had a friend who played football and was 6'5" and 315lbs. Got him up on a Byerly 142 behind a 19' Reinell. Hardest part about getting him up was convincing him that it's all about the form, and not strength. _________________ www.TheLiquidPlayground.com
