Hey guys, Ive been struggling with this for a long time.. Mostly because I havent been able to do a correct whirly on the tramp. I was doing something, but definitely not right. I posted it a year or so ago, and was told "DO NOT" try this with the form I had. After visiting with Kyle at learnwake, he helped me figure out a shoulder issue I was having, and after I tried it out yesterday I am really pumped. I feel I am getting close to ready to take it out behind the boat.. Just looking for some input, thanks

Here is the one I was doing a year or so ago...

Heres the ones I was doing yesterday evening...

When i try them, it seems like I try to just do a backflip and yank the handle around my head and just can't muscle it around.. Rolling Eyes

flyhigh, i've heard that the trick is to really try to "punch" your opposing shoulder with your rope hand and drop your trailing shoulder. I can't do this trick but i really wanna learn. It looks like in the second vid thats exactly what you picked up from learn wake. Correct??

Thanks,
Ryan

I honestly dont think so much about the punch as I do throwing my arm. I start my flip but I really focus on the spin more than anything.. It took me a long time before I could get it figured on the tramp, but focusing on the spin was what finally did it for me.. I guess Ive done so many tannys that my body knows naturally what to do with that part.. hope that helps

ryan351w, Also a HUGE helpful thing that Kyle told me to do, and is in all their whirly help vids is to try to get your lead shoulder lower than your rear one. I know that sounds weird, but its a rope tension issue that they really harp on, and I think it has helped me as well

flyhigh, That is an interesting looking whirly. Personally I wouldn't be taking it to the water yet. You are letting your arm really far out away from your body, basically doing all of the work with your arm, but not letting your body do any of the work, which is why you are just barely making the rotation. Wait for your pop a little longer, and as you uppercut your arm rotate your body with your shoulder a little more. With the line tension behind the boat, your arm will not be able to handle all of the line tension, you need your body to contribute.

Ky1e, did you see the second one? The first one was what I was doing horribly wrong last year.. After doing some work on it, I think I got it figured out in the second video.. Is that the one your are talking about? Looked to be pretty on to me, Kyle at learnwake told me not to change anything so that makes me think hes thinks I right on as well....

Personally I dont think whirly birds are hard behind the boat, but I do think the edge in and the take off are the hardest part, which cant be learned on a trampoline. Keep practicing it though and If you have a solid tantrum and hs blind 3 you could start trying them. I know theres no handle pass in a whirly but make sure you have a good blind 3 first.
