ok, I'm trying to help my poor stereo in the boat, want to add a 12" rockford fosgate 400watt sub and 2 alpine 6 1/2s......with a 300watt rockford fosgate 4 channel amp, a friend is telling me that my alternator will not handle the amp? and I will have to have a bigger alt. to push the sub....? (4.3L mercruiser vortec) what do I need to push the amp, just an extra battery, please help? thanks

thanks guys, I'm going to add a second battery and hooking up the amp to my existing 6/9s and the 6 1/2s...... and then I'll go from there, I'm not sure if a 4 channel 300w amp will push the 12 like it should..... and I've only got room for one......not wanting to spend too much money also......

I am in the same situation that you are. Do you think a capacitor would work instead of getting another battery?

unless you are pushing a lot of watts there is no need. the only reason that i have ever used a capacitor is in cars when the draw is so much that it makes the headlights flash with the bass line.
