Hi Gang,

Long time no talk. I still get on here everyday but the FUEL gig has occupied a lot of my time I will admit. I still love you folks, even my detractors. Looking at you CTipping!

So to make a, literally, 16 year story short, I am in receipt of a board that is so epic in nature that I am wall mounting it in my den permanently. I've had a couple of boards wall mounted but they were so wife-unfriendly that they came down kind of fast (and were poorly wall mounted to begin with so I have learned from my mistakes). I wall mounted the board on which I broke my leg and the board I did my rehab on. That 'collage' lasted 1 year max. Just used nails for that.

In short, Greg Nelson found my constant searches for a K2 Woody and made it happen for me. We've been working on a few things together lately, and I've had the opportunity to talk with him. Such a cool guy and he totally understands what a huge deal this is for me. I will never ride it, but I want it to be a part of my den's flavor. Anyway, to boot - he signed the thing. This leaves me speechless. I have a K2 Woody that he himself rode. It's one of two that he still has so it's literally a piece of wakeboarding history.

I was thinking of making a shadowbox frame for it, but putting it in a shadowbox I think might not look as good as simply wall mounting it. Do any of you have experience wall mounting boards and if so, how did you do it? Photos are appreciated, but your ideas are greatly, greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Erik

Erik you are a handy guy a shadow box would be an easy a classy way to display such a treasure. Use a matching wood to the board and choose a background color or fabric that makes the board stand out, i.e. a surf shapers blue room. Add a light inside maybe one that can be dimmed to match the rooms setting would be dope.
I am jealous as hell I kick myself every year knowing I sold my graphite Flight 69 that Gator rode.

Erik,
I'm not sure if this will be too simple or plain, but I have 2 of my boards hung on the wall with a nail on the bottom side and a nail on the wall, and a piece of string between the two. It mounts flat and you can't see the nails or string. I'll post a picture if you'd like.

Shadow box for sure. While it would look good without it, putting it in there identifies it as a piece of rare history. Those who don't know will ask, those who do will appreciate the classy pedestal that is resides in.

I'm with itch, a good wood, with a contrasting color, I'm thinking a light Navy, or even a green.

That's an awesome show piece.

I'll 3rd the shadow box. You might do the majority of the box with a wood that matches the main wood on that board, or even go ebony. See if you can do some inlay with some exotics that match the board stripes (Purple Heart, Padauk, Bloodwood).

If you want to go that route and have something made or recommendations on wood, let me know. My FIL does some awesome work and he is able to suggest exotics that would match well.

Haha, that's an awesome board Erik.

I'm not sure if it's as "classy" as your wife would like for your house, but this is what I have in my office. It holds my boards during summer if I go riding after work:
