So I was trying some Tantrums today, and after a few near successful attempts, I landed weird and broke my left ankle. I'm gonna be down for a while, likely the end of my season as well.

However, I want to know a few things when I do get back on the water. I know Tantrums are basically trip flips, but I feel like I'm maybe leaning onto my toes/flattening out too early because of my insistence on throwing my head back into it. You're supposed to flatten the board out near the top of the wake right, not near the middle. Also, the motion has to be relatively fast in order to get the pop right/kicked up into the rotation. Does anyone have any tips to do this better when I do get back out on the water, or a way to practice while not actually hitting the wake or a way to practice the lead in/initiating the flip?

Also, I'm looking for a stiffer boot now, since this is the last straw with my 7 year old, Bubb Rubb up, super soft Hyperlite binders, hell I dunno what they even are, all I know is they came on my Motive which I just recently replaced with a Hyperlite Tribute 08. I was thinking of throwing 09 Soven's on it, any opinions?

i start to flatten out right in the hole, but i dont really trip mine, i just come off my edge, square up, take the pop straight up, and lead it with my head. thats what works for me. But lots of people will tell you that you have to really trip it, but whatever works for you.

Yah, i agree with you kent2010, i started coming off my edge in the hole early this season and by doing that your gonna have to trip harder to get your rotation and you'll be throwing the flip back instead of up, resulting in less pop. but once i started waiting that extra split second before coming off my edge. I seemed to ride the wake up stronger and my pop was more explosive coming out of the trip. Hopefully this helps. Good luck!

Get a trampoline, tie a rope and handle to a tree. And practicing holding the handle with two hands for a few jumps, then release your rear hand and square yourself up as you would on the water. Using a trampoline really trains you to take your tricks straight up. Cuz we all know if you don't... your landing in the dirt, on your head.

I've been using this to get the feel for tantrums to blind. It's nerve racking attempting these on the water. So i take the trick straight up on the tramp, pull the handle in to my lower back which inniates a blind turn and land wrapped. I feel way more confident trying these on the water now.

It's not going feel exactly the same but definately trains your muscles and your mind.

I can't help you with the tantrum, but i will say that you should get the 08 or 09 liquid force watson bindings if you are looking for more support. i just got them this summer and they are great. everyone who has put them on is immediately saying how secure they feel compared to other bindings they have used. they are a little on the high end of pricing, but well worth the money especially if you are protecting an injured ankle
