Hey guys I just wanted to get your opinions on this design before I have it built. Any comments or ideas would be appreciated.

MXman: When you say "have it built", how much is that costing (incl materials) and, more importantly, how much you gonna save over a stock tower? When the project's complete and the tower is finally installed, tell us all if you though the saving (if any) was worth it.

There are lots of folk who have done this and/or would like to do it. Some say it simply wasn't worth the hassle, others are clearly proud of what they achieved. So, let us all know, eh?

I don't like the side views very much, but the other angles look pretty sweet. If it saves you money and is hella strong, make it. If not, go with the Monster!

That looks like Matt's handywork on the CAD and if so I would certainly trust the design, he likely knows as much or more about Wakeboard Tower stress analysis as anyone on this plantet. It looks awesome.

Actually, Matt is a good friend of mine, so yes that is his boat model but my own tower model. I was going to use his design but then figured it would be easier to build the tower as a whole and then cut it to achieve the folding.

About the cost of the tower, I found a guy who is going to custom build it for ~$1300. I also had some custom fancy mounting plates made that cost another $160. Then about $225 for powder coating and hardware. So in total about $1700 if everything works out right.

I'll post some pictures as it comes along.

I'd go with a Monster for that much.

Looks like a good design, and if everything goes right the cost sounds damn good. Just make sure it has the stregth you need.

I would consider the Titan Series I Tower if you are planning on spending that much. The price has just been reduced to $1,499.95 which includes freight. This is one of the genuine towers from Malibu and it can be custom made to fit your boat in less than two weeks.

Check out this press release that is hot off the press:

Pat will have this press release posted by tonight.

Yeah...go with the monster. They are affordable, yet not cheaply built, will be at your door in a couple of days and install in about 3 hrs. Heck, if you lived close enough to me, I'd have you haul your boat to my place and I'd install it for ya!

Seriously though, if you go Monster, you'll save $700, a lot of headaches, and lots of time that you could have spent on the water. With $700, you can get board racks, speakers, lights etc. I know you don't get the satisfaction of looking at your tower and going, "I built that", but with the time you'd save by getting a Monster, you can look at a cool trick that someone pulls and go, "I can do that now"...

Disclaimer...I don't get any kickbacks from Monster. I'm just a satisfied customer.

Go with the Monster tower! Less headaches then trying to build it yourself.
