I've been spinning my 180's way too early off the wake and the result is usually nothing good.
Are there any tips or things that you do to make sure you are waiting longer to throw a simple spin?

Just think wake jump all the way through the wake, and about at the peak of your jump, spin the 180 on the way down. Once you get used to doing that, you can start spinning them earlier, but that should ingrain it in your memory. There's no need to rush a 180 since you can spin those from an ollie.

You can always grab the board (or even just go for a grab), it should naturally force you to not spin off of the wake.

But like Christobull said you really need to just wait, the faceplants you get from not waiting should be reminder enough haha.

Stand tall off the wake, then before you spin, suck your knees up to get into a good spinning position. That'll give you something to do before you start, and create a good habit for spinning 360s and such.
