I was not fortunate enough to be "in the know" while these events were unfolding. I was sitting through a morning of classes in law school, and we were completely oblivious to what was happening. After class, I walked down the the light rail station to catch the train downtown to the firm I was clerking at. Got on the train and about 3 minutes later they told us to exit the train at the next station-they shut the line down for 30 minutes and we had no clue why. I didn't even know what had happened until I got to work at nearly 1PM central time that day.

Much love and wishes for the safety of every member of the forces who protect and serve to uphold our freedom and principles that make our country what it is. I will never forget.

Cannot believe it has been 8 years.

I knew what today is, actually discussed it with a colleague over coffee this morning. But looking at those photos instantly had my emotions swimming with sadness, anger, hate.....something I did not have with just the discussion.

And another note, I'd like to see the stats on terrorism since we went into the Middle East. I think the average terrorist knows that they can go into their back yard to take shots at Americans. We are better off with trained soldiers fighting that fight than average citizens...

The guy down the hall had a TV in his office, we watched live as the second plane struck the tower......
Many people left work to take their kids out of school. I will never forget that day.

Today I'm wearing a flag on my shirt, and will every September 11th as long a God allows me to be here.

I was living in CT at the time, the impact was pretty intense. Working in a restaurant I got crazy stories all the time because we were so close. One of the girls I worked with was taking off (literally) at JFK while they watched plane #2.

I watched at home in horror, then made my way over to the office to direct the shutdown procedure. I had no idea how long we would be down or offline, and I didn't care. I just had to do my job and put everything on ice ~ I had responsibilities to our clients and even acts of terrorism/war are not above those.

But, when I got there though, everyone was hammered. Not fun drunk, but having a drink for all of our fallen comrades. So many in our industry met their fate that day...

I didn't drink ~ I had to take care of business. I wound everything down, contacted my counterparts to see what their game plan was, fielded a few calls, and basically shut it down for what turned out to be 6 very long and sad days.....

Being on the west coast it happened when I was getting ready for school in 7th grade I believe. I'll never forget my radio being on and the morning show hosts being dead serious, it was very eerie.

jryoung - Because my town in CT is so close to NYC, a large majority of kids' parents work in the city. At that time, my uncle was a fireman for Sikorsky (one of the big helicopter plants based right in CT) and they had the firemen on a chopper flying to NYC to try and save some of the people that were in the top floors. Once they feared that the building might collapse, they decided to not send the choppers there.

I can remember sitting in my freshmen history class watching the broadcast. Everyone was leaving class calling their parents to make sure they/their relatives were alive. With so many people from CT working in the city, it was very scary. My grandfather and 2 of my great uncles were police officers, and my father was a fire fighter for many years. I have a great deal of respect for the people who do that everyday.

I was in my truck listening to the radio. The radio stations in Alabama only had that it was a plane. And the announcers were thinking a small cessna type plane. So I went about my business.

I was in a bobcat when my dad came out, and told everyone to stop and come inside. That's when I had seen that both towers were hit. It was very surreal. I didn't know what to do, so I went back to work. I didn't want to keep watching.

I was a freshman in High school and I heard a JROTC kid talkin about a plane hitting a building in NY and I just assumed small plane crazy accident. Our genius school system made the exec decision that no kids in the schools were to be told what was going on. We had a guy who lost his dad and they did not even tell him until the day was over and he got home to a house full of people. I played golf when I got out of school cause I had no idea what had happened.

In an office building in the Loop. Watched it happen live before I took a cab in, too scared to ride the subway. Left the office and sat on the roof looking at the Sears Tower, just wondering.

First time I didn't see a plane in the sky over Chicago. Except for the random fighter jet.

And now 8 years later, we still have not found Osama and we are fighting a war that has lasted longer than WWI or II.

I was a freshman in College and selling cell phones at a local sams club, didn't start working until 10am EST so i saw some of it at home. I remember our regional manager calling to remind us "I know this has happened today, but we still need to meet our sales goals, go out there and sell". My dad was in Manhattan on business about 20 blocks away and had visited the twin towers two days before. I gave him (my manager) the big FU.

good friend of mine was married to a pilot for continental, so she was living in jersey. she was a 3rd grade schoolteacher right across the river, and many of her students had parents that worked in manhattan, and in the wtc. they watched it all from their classrooms and sure enough, some of those kids quite literally watched their parents die. that still kills me just thinking about it.

one of my best friends from high school was on the first united plane out of boston to san fran that morning (the 2nd one was used in the wtc attack). so close and so random.

I was at Western Mich. no class that morning. My buddy from CT called me woke me up and said to turn on the TV. I asked what station and he said it didn't matter. I had no idea what was going on but when he said that my heart sank....
I was in the aviation program and went out to the field to hang out with the instructors and buddies just not seeing a plane in the air and the radio waves silent was the eeriest thing i've ever encountered.

I was in a science class my freshman year when the news came from our principal over the intercom and told everyone the news. None of us really knew anything about the WTC buildings and our teacher did not allow us to turn on the tv that hour. When I got to my next class we were allowed to watch TV and I quickly found out what was really going on and the severity of the issue.

God bless those who were lost and their families and everyone in the military for defending our Country.

I'm sure I have told this story before. I was in SF on the trading desk that morning and confirming trades with a broker in the WTC. All of a sudden he said a plane hit the other tower and he had to go (He was on the 87th floor in the other tower). We went into contingency mode and watched in horror as each Bloomberg headline came across the screen. Each was worse than the last. When it said a tower fell we thought it was a typo. Within an hour the entire SF Financial District was a ghost town and I went back to my hotel and watched TV for hours. My brokers got out but they lost 13 people that day and each survivor had a story that would chill your bones. One of them that I consider a friend only made it out because he had to go back to get a duffel bag. Had he been in the stairwell he would have been right where the second plane hit.

I still remember that day very vividly, as well. I lived in CA at the time, so it was unfolding as I left the house and drove to work. I remember leaving the house after watching the news. They were showing the first tower and the second hadn't been hit yet. I listened in horror on my 1.5 hour drive to work as everything unfolded.

Let us never forget.

Weatherford...and my how things of stayed the same. Look at the way we were to each other on 9-12 9-13 9-20.
Look at the site of the WTCs... same freakin hole. No real monument. No rebuilding of the towers.
The new building was gonna be called "The freedom tower" Now its "one world trade" so as to not offend anyone. Last time I check this america. I don't care what other countries are gonna be doing business there. Its our soil.

The empire state building was built in 400 days in the 30's
The Hoover dam. 5 years. 1931-1936. 100 Americans died building it.

This really upsets me. I'm sorry to take away from the ambiance of this thread but it does.
Why haven't we done anything? Why isn't there 2 taller better stronger buildings where they once stood? That would be the best way to honor and remember those that passed and those that gave the ultimate sacrifice tying to save those on that day. Not to mention those that survived.

hard to believe it's been that long.

I was trading and talking to my floor guys on the NYMEX when then first plane hit. The NYMEX used to be in the world trade center but moved a couple of blocks over about a year or two before the event. Watching it on the big screen and talking to my friends that were in the building and across the street seems like it was yesterday. A couple of my friends moved out of the city after that happened one of the women i was good friends with worked for Cantor Fitzgerald and had gone on Mat leave a week before. Having a kid saved her life.

This is a life altering event that anyone that went through with will never forget. How many things have you lived through that changed the world as we know it. I think this is one of them.
