Who do you guys use for service?
I have always had direct tv. But, I am kind of out of the loop on what service providers can offer. I would like the phone bill, cable bill and internet bill to all be the same. I would also like the cable to have that deal to where you can watch stuff whenever you want (i think it is on demand) and would also like to be able to record shows and watch them on whatever TV I wanted. Lastly, if there is a way, I would prefer to not have to pay out the ass for every cable box. Think the new house is going have 9 tv's but only 2 or 3 will be used frequently. So, I don't want to waste a bunch of money paying for TV's I won't be using.
Any thoughts? |

They charge per box after the first 3 i think. Also, you can only watch recorded programs on the box in which it was recorded. They do have on demand though, and there service is reliable. _________________ Brent B

I have comcast. They should be able to do everything you want. Although I get charged for my extra cable box, so that might be an issue.
The DVR service they have allows you to record and watch on any tv with the box in your house. _________________

Just to clarify, if you record on one tv, you cannot go to another tv and watch that recording. With comcast at least.
If you get Tivo boxes and use them with comcast, that is a whole nother story. _________________ Brent B

Anyone still use a basic cable line sans box??? My TV hasn't been on for 2 months so I don't really need all the fancy stuff, but I would like to get one of those HDTV Antennas soon. Anyone have one? |

ONT rider....
TV- basic cable no box, inlcluded in HOA fees.
Cable - Comcast
Phone - VZW
My GF got rid of her cable and now has a HDTV box. She gets the major local networks, about 20 religious channels, about 6 spanish channels, a hgtv type channel called 'create" and then a couple of ion channels. |

| timmy, what is the box for? I've got my phone/internet/cable all with the same provider here but all I have is basic cable. So I'm looking at getting the antennas that you can hook right into your TV. Most people here can pick up about 30 channels with them, and the HD is better quality than what you get with the boxes. Best part about it is no cable bill. |

ontrider, the box is probably a digital converter.
If your set already receives digi tv, you just need an antenner.
The quality is excellent - esp HD!
It's an on/off proposition though, unlike analog where you could watch snowy tv if you had to. _________________

Broccoli B,
I stand corrected. You can do it with the On Demand service and PPV, not the DVR service.
Thanks for correcting me. _________________

TV - DirecTV
Phones - home phones are for suckers
Cell phones and internet - ATT / ATT aircard
I will never go back to landline cables for anything as long as I can avoid them. _________________

We have Basic Comcast cable, the 10mb internet line and Skype as our Home phone. We have a box that goes from USB of the computer and turns it into phone line and we have our home phones plugged through that. We have an outside number to call in and can make calls out. Local number. Service is $2.95 a month, caller id is about 6 bucks every 3 months, voicemail is about 12 every 6 months and then the number is 12 for 3 months or 30 for a year. I think when we figured it out, we pay approx 5 bucks or so a month for home phone service with unlimited minutes lol.
We arent home enough to justify getting digital cable and upgrades, and we just dl shows we miss so we just have basic channels 2-90...pay 8 bucks for that, internet is 58 and then skype for bout 5 a month...
Been doing that for years... _________________ How much work would a network work if a network could network? |

Security system needs it. Could maybe do something like silvermustang but then phone service would be connected to power. Can't really do that either. |

Had Comcast for a pretty long time, and Time Warner before that (I think they're the same thing...?).
Never had any problems, always been happy. Their cable internet is great, too. I'm not sure about the phone service though, havn't had home phones in long time. |

Ontrider - can you get HD signals from the states? Do canadian broadcaster send out the HD?
My parents get the major US channels - NBC, ABC, FOX, CBS in HD, but' we're close to detroit. No canadian HD channels though. _________________ Impossible is not a a fact. It's an opinion. htownbdr, uverse? They have 100+ hd channels, and probably hundreds of others.
I still am very happy with Dish. Waiting for the VIP922 with integrated Slingbox... soon... _________________

I was checking out this forum and a couple local ones - http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=81
I know some people around me say that they get some of the Buffalo stations over the air, I think it really depends where you are and which way your antenna is aimed. My neighbours got one a few months ago and get around 30 channels but I'm not sure which ones. The quality is great though. I really just want it for the hockey in HD... but I'm sure as time goes on there will be more channels available too. |

Ont - unless you like watching hockey on NBC, I don't think that will work. CBC isn't broadcasted over the air in HD. _________________ Impossible is not a a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.

Verizon FIOS. It is friggin awesome. 25 mbps down 15 mbps up. Ridiculous fast. Good channel line up - high quality TV, DVR, unlimited nationwide calling on the phone service. $120 a month after tax. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

arof, yeah I wasn't 100% sure.. but I thought they had CBC. I just flipped through the channels and figured, meh.. that's enough to warrant the $100 bucks for an antenna. My TV hasn't been on in 2 months, so I'm not really the type to go and find a huge list of how many channels I can get an be adjusting my antenna 2.65 degrees to pickup that extra station from Rochester. |

tball, hell I have fiber at 3/3 and even at that speed it is still great. No bottlenecks like cable, synchronous speed FTMFW.
Too bad their TV setup sucks. I am literally 50 feet from AT&T's service area. No Uverse for me. _________________

chavez, TV setup? What do you mean? I have over 100 HD channels and their DVR keeps improving. They upgrade that thing almost every week adding features. Now traffic, weather, facebook, twitter on your cable-box... Not that I use any of them. Just cool that they have it. And the channels aren't compressed POS like cable does. Uverse doesn't run fiber all the way to the house. _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |
