I am working on doing BS 180.
My question is, should I be doing this TS or HS, normal or switch?
If I start switch and do the trick TS, then I land regular and HS which seems the easiest to land, but the hardest to take off.
Any thoughts?

I would definitely recommend doing the HS BS 1 switch if you can get the pop, but I'd learn the TS regular. That's just me, but as some point you'll want to know all of them, so go with what you feel most comfortable with.

Is it better to land comfortable or takeoff comfortable, at least in learning mode?
Landing comfortable seems better for sticking it, but taking off in an awkward way (e.g. TS switch) I don't get much pop.

abrider, I think you just answered you own question. I always feel like I rush the trick doing it switch. But, for me, I'm very comfortable landing HS switch, not so much TS switch. I'm like you, I'm still working on just a ST TS w2w because the pop is just not there. I always seem to leave the jewels in the boat when I hit the wake switch TS.

This is very much wrong. A toeside BS spin requires a handle pass and the way you are turning is very counteractive to the way you release off the wake.
Obviously it could be different for cable riders, but I'm assuming he's riding behind a boat.

back to business....
HS takeoffs for BS spins might be longer in that when I hit the wake HS, the board is just about perpendicular to the line of travel of the boat, while TS the board is at about a 45 degree angle. Better riders might get the board more around TS.
Either way, on takeoff ceoms back to parallel with the boat and then around to parallel wit hthe boat but 180 degrees turned. So in a HS spin, we actually go about 270 degrees, while in a TS spin we go about 225 degrees.
On the other hand, HS jumps (at least for me) have a lot more air to them.
I guess this is why FS spins are much easier. In a HS 180, one only need spin about 90 degrees, and a TS FS 180 one spins about 135 degrees. To keep an edge I like to spin a little more but YMMV.
All this geometry is a killer.

my input would be:
I myself wouldn't touch a switch backside 180 heelside or toeside. I just don't release off the wake to where I feel actually comfortable in the air to try and spin backside. The release is pretty important to spinning backside and you can get off kilter real quick on those.
I would start with a normal hs bs 180. Do them in the flats first. Then try and do inside out 180's. Then try and take them to the wake.
It's definitely a trick that can ring your bell for sure, but I haven't found them to be so bad that it kept me from trying again.

Ideally, you would land on the same edge or greater edge than the edge you jump from. IE, you land cutting away from the wake harder than you cut into the wake to jump. Therefore, using your rational of degrees spun, a BS 180 would cover potentially less than a protractor.
I forgot who pointed it out, but someone mentioned that a TS BS spin is the one spin that you can initiate before you release from the wake, per the guys at the Wakeboard Camp. So, that may even up the playing field some.

TS BS 180 regs is defanetly more easy for me... i come from a skateboarding background and think the steeziest trick on a skateboard by far is a popped and poked bs 180 and when i do them i drift "over my toes" if that makes any sense. I drift in the same direction you would if you were going w2w toeside. i learned emm 1 wake slowed down then half cut full speed into middle then w2w.

IM landing the HS BS 180 around 50% of the time now, the other 50% hurts What helped me a lot was doing bs surface tricks out in the flats to set an axis/get the feel for the rotation and the handle pass.
I cant seem to land the TS BS 180
I have a full day on the water tomorrow...going to try and perfect the HS BS, and land at least one damn ts bs. Either that or I get a concussion.

I'd definitely go with hs regular. Start with the ollie BS and then go from there. It took me way too long to get that trick consistent but it's one of my favorites. Just make sure to lean over your toes on the landing and pass the handle low.
I've tried a few toeside and I always have too much line tension. I always over-rotate the Switch HS.

| If you are good at halfcabs the switch hs bs 180 was very easy for me to learn just pass the handle first before trying to land blind

I actually started working on ts bs last night. It actually felt a lot better than I remember. I only attempted 3 of them but I can tell that once you get it, it should be easy to duplicate. I just had to really focus on pulling the handle in before the pass and passing super low.

I had a full day ot yesterday, and my hs bs 180 is now about 75% of the time.
The ts bs 180...no dice Either missed the handle or couldnt stick the landing every time. After 45 minutes of JUST trying it, gave up for the day and just rode for fun again.
