Hey,
I tried wakeboarding for the first time last weekend.Used a friends board that the binding were way to small for me.I got up on the first try and did ok, but now I'm hooked and want my own gear.I am 6'6" with a size 15 foot.I weigh 240lbs..Are there any rules to picking out a board like with combo ski's.I kneeboard and combo ski alot and I know with my ski's and wakeboards there are good and better styles..Whats a good board and bindings for a big beginner goof like me? Thanks in advance and look forward to learning all I can..

Bo I am new also but as a big guy I have learned some things that may be helpful! With your weight you should be looking at a board in the 143-147cm size range, also with size 15 feet you will want to lean towards a wider board so that you do not have to duck toe your binding to much, otherwise your toes will drag in the water. For the pro's on here to really give you a recommendation you will need to make some more decisions. How much do you want to spend? What are your goals in riding? Will you be sharing the board? I went with a LF Trip 146, I am a weekend warrior and only real goals at this point are to have fun! Good Luck Todd _________________ Just trying to find my piece of the pie! |

Skinny, thanks for the info.I appreciate it.
Thats me, just having fun and a weekend warrior, but I'm very competitive and once I get into something I like I'm hooked and try to do my best.I have a lot and we go to the lake or river almost everyweekend I am off during the summer.I have several friends with great boats and I'm looking to upgrade from my vip to a mastercraft and have been looking around. So if I'm already out the lot,30 or 40k boat, gas, may as well get a good board that will work well for me.My ski's were 400, what should I expect to pay for a good one? My goals, hmm, I just wanna take it one step at a time and get the basics down pat and go from there and see what happens.Any recomendation on a good board? Maybe 4-500 a good price? Higher? Lower? Thanks... _________________ A bad day on the water beats a good day at work! |

At that size, get yourself a small boat, and strap your feet on
Seriously, at least a 144 to get yourself some pop off the wake. |

I'm 6'8" and also wear a size 15. I ended up buying a used 07 Gator Caddy 142 from some guy on Craigs list.
For bindings, I had a hell of a time even finding any in stock big enough to try!
I managed to get into a set of LF Domain Bindings which were ok.. feet stuck over the end little, but not bad.
I found a shop that had CWB torq and Faction instock in XXL. I found that I could get into the CWB bindings much easier than the LF Domains. I really liked the hinge, especially for my over sized feet!
I found the fit on the Torqs to be better for me than the Faction. I got in them easier and they felt a little bigger across the top of my feet. They were also more comfortable and seemed to offer a little more support.
I ended up buying the Torqs and have been having tons of fun with the setup! |

Well, I got the board and I'm lovin it! Went every day for a week straight! Got w2w down no problem, get pretty good air,can carve good, ollie good, all was going great until I pulled an abdominal muscle lol..My bindings are coming apart already after just 2 weeks of use .I gotta send them back in and get them repaired or exchanged.I had many bad crashes, seems the more confident I get the harder the crashes become..Having trouble riding switch though,I can ride switch, but no tricks..Just an update..Thanks for all the help! _________________ A bad day on the water beats a good day at work! |

It's good you like it. That's all that matters. I'd advise you spend a little extra on some nice bindings.. IMO having nice bindings can really make the difference. They'll last longer and be more comfortable. |
