|
|
As the title states, I have started workign a bit harder on my TS wake jumps lately, and my main problem to progressing is that I keep getting spray in my face as I go up the wake.
Yes I know body position, progressive edge, line tension...etc play a major role here but as far as landing and maintaining edge, I am having issues due to gettign my eyes sprayed full of water.
Any tips on this or has this happened to anyone else?

Sounds like you're bending forward at the waist. When you cut in TS, you want your chest out toward the sky, not down toward the water. Practice your edge on your cut out, and then go back to the wake jump and see if you're still having the same problem.

Well I believe I am... on my cut outs I set my edge a bit, turn my shoulders toward the boat, make sure the rope is low, and try to think about sticking my belly button up towar the sky. Usually looking back up the rope.
I guess I could be leaning over even though my body is getting turned properly, I may still be leaning toward the water. I will have to get a buddy of mine to check.
Oh an no goggles... I get enough crap for wearing slalom gloves already.

Hey kyle f, nobody has really helped in here yet, haha. Here's the reason that's happening:
You simply need to twist your hips more so your board is pointed more in the direction you're going.
Think about it this way. On your heelside edge, picture how your board gets almost perpendicular to the direction of the boat. This turn, along with the lean away from the rope, turns the board into a nice wedge in the water that sends you toward the wake, while putting plenty of water pressure on the bottom of the board, letting your board get set down in the water so the wake pushes it up on contact.
Now think of what would happen if you leaned back, but didn't really turn the board across the wakes. You'd trip over your heels, like you were trying to do a tantrum. You would get sprayed in the back of the head from the wake.
Getting into that position toeside takes more of a conscious effort. Think about trying to show the people in the boat your but and chest at the same time. That twisted position will allow you to lean straight away from the rope and really get some good leverage evenly across the bottom of your board.
The angle of your board in relation to the direction of the boat should change at the same rate as how much you are leaning away from the direction of the rope. Edging is a combination of leaning while turning the board. The more you lean, the more you should turn, and the tighter the line will get, creating more pop potential.
Hope that helps!

another good tip is load the rope almost completely with your back hand and allow your chest to stick out. bend in the knees and not the waist.
that was the best advice i ever got on toe side approaches and it works.
