Total newbie mom here.
I was hoping to get some help finding a board for my 15 year old son. He is currently 5'2 & 110 pounds & growing quickly. He will most likely top out at about 5'6 - 5'7 and 140-150 pounds. He is a beginner & would like a continuous rocker.
I was looking at the Hyperlite Motive 134 with Foundation bindings ($259), any thoughts? Any recommendations on other options? I'd really like to keep the cost under $300 if possible. I'm not sure what size board would be best for him, but it will need to work for the rest of the summer without being so big that it is unusable, but also work for the next year or two.
Thanks!! |

My girlfriends son is 13, weighs 125-130 and got the motive in a 128, works great for him. Got up on his first time out, 3rd try. He's really gaining good control of it. The 134 will seem a bit big at first, but he'll grow into it. That package sounds like a good deal, I don't know anything about the bindings though, maybe someone else will chime in on those. I'm sure they will be fine while he's learning. _________________

If he's ridden anything else, and you know the size, that would help. If he's brand new, I think JeffreyCH had a good size for you at the 128. If it were me, I'd probably go with a 132 or even a 134 because I ride on the upper end of my range, or just over it. I like the feel and control of the larger boards. My brother was a little lighter than your son when he started riding, and he rode my HL 142 with a continuous, and now four years later, he's still on it and has grown into it, so don't worry too much about size, he'll find out what he's most comfortable on with experience. And, it's easy to stay under $300. The board I was talking about was $150 board and bindings. Even my Hyperlite Apex that I bought on closeout was $250 before bindings, and the Remix's I put on it were $100, then I talked them into a %30 discount on a new rope and handle. See if he can demo a few different sizes, and probably go with the largest he's still comfortable on. _________________
