I was having the same problem. The main thing that fixed mine was pulling into your hip off the top of the wake before you start spinning. That way you have enough slack in the rope to make the pass. Once finally getting the handle pass down they are easy to land consistently.

I had a handle attached to my bed post for a few days practicing pulling in, spinning and passing. I don't if it really helped that much.

You dont really ever want slack in your rope. You always want a certain amount of line tension or else you have no control. If you have proper technique we can skip through the whole wake jump part. the key to getting the handle pass is actually waiting, rushing the spin is only going to kill your line tension which will also kill your wake jump height/length etc. Step one get a good pop, At the top of your jump pull the handle into your hip, let go with whatever hand you need to pass and during that time pull the handle into the small of your back here grab it with your other hand and complete your rotation.

before you go out, take the handle and put it right where you want it everytime, around your hip, youll get used to the same spot, reach for it and you've got it =)

I suggest a tantrum, it's a bit more of a natural move

i suggest the backroll personally. The tantrum was hard for me to commit to for awhile.

give em both a shot though, many vary on which one they think is easier.

I found a cool exercise for perfecting your handle pass from learnwake on youtube. You basically take a handle, tie it to a jug of water, then spin it around yourself, and you get a bunch of handle passes, not to mention strength training for those ill-used muscle groups. You can add some bungee cord in the middle to increase the difficulty. I've been doing it, we'll see if it works. Very Happy

Shaggyboarder has it right. the trick is to wait before you start the rotation. My first couple threes i landed i didnt even start the rotation before i was on my way down. its gonna feel wrong, but trust me, it works. Just wait for the pop.

if your gonna go the invert route first... i learned the backroll first and then the tantrum and i personally thing the tantrum is WAY easier, but i think it differs for everybody... my advice is to try them both. Once you get one invert, others start coming easier and easier.

I'm also working on the 3, and the best thing I've heard to make the pass easier, but hold line tension, is to bend at the waist when making the pass, putting your hips back toward the boat. Then when you come around, you return to normal and you still have line tension when you land. I see the pros passing the handle behind their legs instead of behind their back. Looks like it would be easier, but I've been told not to do that because it creates bad habits. I don't really know why this is though.
