I'm just now starting to land my toeside wake to wake jumps consistently, and the FS 180s are pretty natural. I'm looking for some beginner toeside tricks that I can start working on. Other than the BS 180s, I'm currently working on my backroll. What would be some suggestions for new tricks that I could probably learn at this stage in my progression?

the 180 is a good start. but just work on being in control, getting some grabs, and getting good pop. but if you are thinking invert wise the toeside back roll is pretty easy or a scare crow.

ts frontroll, ts backroll, and scarecrow are mainly the base ts invert tricks.
go for a crail grab.. ( back hand nosegrab and bone out your back leg).

kriggs, I'll definitely give the inverts a shot, but the crail grab is a no-go. I have a bad left shoulder (which is my lead side riding normal) that dislocates very easily. I can't take my right hand off the handle for anything that would put lateral tension on my shoulder.

sounds like he's regular.

You could try ts bs 180s, ts 3s, frontrolls, or scarecrows

Got it. I'm working on switch quite a bit though, so I'm not limited in tricks, just whether I do some normal or switch.

kent2010, should I learn the heelside front roll before I try the scarecrow? I landed the front roll several years ago before I took an extended break from wakeboarding, and haven't tried it since. I could probably pick it back up pretty easy at this point, so it might not be a bad idea anyway.

Not real sure what you are calling the back lip. Heelside edge I assume? Maybe also behind your rear foot? Try the stalefish, melan, and my favorite, the palmer. A melan is just a boned out stalefish. I always wondered why it got it's own name. Question

Christobull, a melan is lead hand grabbing HS and stalefish is back hand grabbing HS..

STANG KILLA SS, try working on ts fs 180's if you don't have them yet and then it might be easy to combo that with a melan grab.

Blindside_137, An oversight apparently. I guess what I'm doing is a method then, but without making it look any good. Sad

How easy would you say a TS backroll really is? I've never hucked one but they look pretty simple. it's kind of like a gainer flip. Any pointers? I'd love to get a TS invert dialed in to throw down after a HS one.

So far, I've only tried it one time out. I got the rotation, but not the height. I wasn't waiting long enough to initiate the flip. In short, I think it's going to be possible the next time I go for it, so... pretty easy? I'll let you know when I get it down.

curtblanchette, probably the least painful way to fall on your face is while flipping in the opposite direction. Laughing But, I know what you're saying. I tend to do that anyway, so there's not that much difference for me. Learning to edge with correct side of the board is a must. Pushing your toes into the water while edging heelside isn't nearly as cool as it sounds.

Are you setting up like a trip flip and releasing your back hand on takeoff to square up? Do you think adding the indy should kind of help speed up the rotation Question . More style points too! Hopefully i'll get a chance to try this sometime this week.

curtblanchette, I hear that the grab does speed it up, but no, I don't release my hand. I just arch backwards when I hit the wake and throw the board away from the boat slightly.

... that makes sense...I just need to stand up nice and tall of the wake and look back then tuck up my knees and spin it. I still think i'd be more comfortable with one hand on the rope. But i'll try it both ways and see which one works best. I'll let you know how it goes! Cool

chirstobull: yeah grabing HS edge. i just cant decide if i wantto grab front had or rear hand, is grabing with front hand (hanging on with rear) even possible with TS jumps? or is your body in the way?

A toeside backroll is i think the easiest toeside invert. but it is not a trip flip, just take a nice progressive edge into the wake with more weight towards your back foot. The most important thing is to use the whole wake, just like with a heelside backroll. then when you are at the top just initiate the rotation and spot your landing. if you feel like you are going switch let go with your back hand. keep in mind this will slow your ratation though.

Christobull, i landed the ts frontroll before the crow, but its just personal preference. if you are very comfortable landing switch then a crow will be easier because its a more natural rotation, but try both and see what happens

STANG KILLA SS, for the TS jump, you would have to rotate to grab with your lead hand, unless you just had some amazing wrist strength methinks.

kent2010, I don't have a problem landing switch, so I'll probably take that advice and just see if I start to rotate on the frontroll.
