I've found myself teaching a lot of my friends to board recently, and when I tell them what they're doing wrong, they still don't get it. What I'm looking for are some of the useful things you've heard that really gets the point across for basic techniques on body position, stance, edging, etc. I did purchase The Book earlier this week which I hope will give me some different ways of saying the same thing, but I doubt if I'll have it by Friday when I go to the lake with my girlfriend, who btw picked it up much quicker than the others, but I'd like to be able to help her as much as possible.
I'm no expert, but we're talking about things that you have to do every time out, like getting up, basic riding/edging and so forth. I tell them they need to keep their back straight and weight back because they're constantly falling over the front of the board, but they continue to underestimate how much this needs to be done. I know that from the boat, it doesn't look like the rider is leaning back very far, but from the side, you can easily see that they are. Would it help, I wonder, to get back there with them so they can see my technique up close and I could point things out on the fly? Any advice? _________________

One of the tips that really helped me stop bending at the waist especially on my TS edge was stick your belly out towards the sky. Keeping that in mind while edging really helped me. _________________ Lets see how many cliche inspirational sayings we can throw at the rider in one pull, they really do help... |

Thanks guys, my early riding was self taught, so I never had anyone telling me things like that. Wakeboarding was not as mainstream then (at least to me), and I didn't know anyone at the time who had ever tried. Good and bad to start out that way I guess. You definitely learn what doesn't work. _________________
