I've been testing out boats left and right lately and I have gotten good results with some and decent results with others. I first tested the 2000 21V Riders Edition Tige. The wake was very solid and nice. It had the TAPS system set to the lowest and did not have any weight in it. Now if I were to add more weight I think I would get a pretty crazy wake behind it. Another boat I have tested is the 2001 X-star. Now I know the hull is from a Prostar 205V and is was made for a direct drive. The wake behidn this boat was very nice and I rode well behind it. The most recent boat I've tested was a 2001 Super Air Nautique. Now I heard rave reviews about the wakes on these boats and I was somewhat disappointed. We filled the two rear tanks and started riding. When I got out there the wake didn't seem to really be that big at all. Is this because Nautiques simply need more weight to create a nice huge wake or are there boats not designed to throw out huge wakes with little weight? I heard from the dealers that there boats can throw bigger wakes simply because of the design of the hull.... does this sound accurate? The interior, appearance and features on the Nautiques were far better than any other boat. Let me know your thoughts..... _________________ Brent

I personally think that all "wake" boats need extra ballast, besides what comes stock. No matter what boat I have ridden behind, they all need a little extra to pump out the macking wake you are talking about.
Have you tried a Malibu VLX, yet?? |

That also depends on skll level. To try to answer a little the SAN is going to respond to weight the best out of the boats listed. The two tanks aren't that big on that SAN and it probably needs some more weight. I agree that the Tige listed has a nice wake but when you go adding weight to it things can get trickey.
Bigger isn't always the key. Some wakes can be huge but soft at the same time. A SAN wake is steep, monsterous when weighted, and super solid. The hull on a SAN will sink with less weight because it is a narrower boat. |

Try the 2001 san with a sack in the front floor locker and there will be a big difference. _________________ www.wake.com.au |

Sk8bum99,
I promise I will put your mind at ease this week when we ride! It's hard to compare the X-Star with 2200lbs. to any other boat with less weight. The SAN needs more than the factory 400lbs, for sure, but only about another 1000lbs to be really nice. Anything more is just that much better! Hope to see you guys soon!
