|

| I'm wondering if it's possible (sorry if dumb question). Is it possible to turn my old wakeboard into a wakeskate board? If so how would I do so, maybe just get a large amount of grip tape and good shoes? |

Depending on the size of the board you may want to cut it down on both ends and then fiberglass it again. Most wakeskates are between 39 - 43 inches or about 99 - 112cm, so the average wakeboard is going to feel rather big and likely become an issue with the decks performance. Other than chopping the ends down it just a matter of foam or grip but from the sounds of it you are gripping it so thats taken care of.
As for shoes any old skate shoes will do. Its all personal preference, some people ride in wake specific, some in skate shoes both old and new, while others ride anything from slip ons and ProKeds (cheap and hold up rather well apparently) to whatever else cheap ass shoe they can find.
As long as the shoe will drain out water so its stays somewhat light while riding you are good, beyond that its just finding your own likes and dislikes as far as grip and feel go. _________________ www.wakeupfilms.com |

There used to be a company (Fresh Water Traction) that made pads that would screw right into your binding mounts......
If you check out OLD Scool vids of wakeskating thats what they were using (wakeboards w/ grip)..... It will work.... probably just not as good as buying an actual skate...... |

The wakeskates are not nearly as pricey as wakeboards. I would just find one on sale or get a previous year's model. Your idea technically sounds as though it would work, but I don't think you'll get the same experience with it as you would a real wakeskate.

If you don't have any background with glassing, I wouldn't recommend this. You'd be looking at a huge headache if you ask me. _________________

If you have a good local Malibu or Mastercraft dealer, many of them carry all kinds of ski/wake accessories. From my experience, they are really good to work with, and you can usually talk them into making you some deals if say, you want a new rope, vest or ballast sack as well. Depending on your locale, Sun and Ski is a great place to buy old model boards. Their staff is very knowledgeable and will be able to answer any wakeskate questions you might have while you're there. Doesn't hurt to check their website either. I just looked for you, and there's not any wakeskates on sale right now, but they have several online only deals that you might be able to take advantage of.
