Hi,

I'm getting into wakeboarding after many years of wakerskiing and kneeboarding. I've always felt that beginner equipment is a bad investment as you need to upgrade rather fast and the value of your beginner setup falls like a rock..
Is it recommended to always start off with a beginner board even if you have watersports experience?

I have been looking at the Hyperlite Murray board with either Murray or Marek boots. I have read somewhere that the Murray is ok for beginners as well as more advanced riders. What do you guys think?

In Norway where I ride, there are more fjords than lakes, so the ride is most of the time pretty choppy. Do you think the Murray is a good choice, or are there better options. (I'm sticking with Hyperlite because of the availability in Norway..)

Thanks! Smile

I went from an newbie board to an advanced level board (HL Premier) it took a bit to get used to, it will force you to learn proper edging technique, or catch an edge and fall. Most go with an intermediate board for 1st ride, then trade up after a year or so.

I started on a Pro board, and thats pretty hard, you catch your edge quikly and its way to agressive, i advice to start on an intermidiate board, wich i am riding now aswell.

I started on a hyperlite murray and i did just fine. I think it actually helped me out in the long run teaching me how to edge correctly. I agree with you 100% that beginner equipment is a waste. It just teaches you how to ride the wrong way if you ask me.

Beginner boards suck, I'm riding my old one while I'm waiting for my new one to come in from warranty. I'll tell you what it's like trying to huck a 2x4 into the air, and lands like a brick lol.

Ummmm I didn't say anything about 2"fins, a 2x4 is construction lumber, if you can imagine trying to put up a chunk of wood, that's what my beginner board is like. Wink

norwegian viking, Well the only other board i've rode is a hyperlite motive. The murray hands down is a much better board then the motive. Better pop, softer landings, gets on edge easier etc. I live on a lake so i usually only ride when its calm but i have had my murray out on the chop and its really not too bad.

I would go for the murray though. It's a nice board great bindings, and when you get better it will still be a great board. One thing though you will take a few face plants learning your correct edging. The board is real loose if you dont have your correct edge down and will slip out from under you. This helped me though in the long run. I learned to use my edge right away rather then using the fins. I still ride with my fins on, i think there only like a .7 a wing or somethin. Im actually riding a 07 murray and its crazyyy loose without the fins. Just about not even rideable. So id leave the fins on for now and take em off and see how it rides without them later on down the road.
