Hello I'm getting into wakeboarding and would like some suggestions on a first board. I would like something that would last me to a intermediate stage so I think I would like curved tips to land trick and such.
I skimboard throughout the year and skateboard. Thanks in advance
EDIT: I am 6' 0" amd 150lbs |

| I also wear a size 13-13.5 shoe and I don't know if finding bindings that size would be a problem |

| I found a board I'm interested in the 2009 Hyperlite ERA 142. I love its graphics and suggestions on bindings? |

| I'm not familiar with certain boards or anything since i'm new to all this but from what i have read a 142 would pb be to big. That is going just off you're weight. I could be completely wrong and would not be surprised. I'm sure some one will jump on and correct me if needed. |

Since I deal with noobies all the time on my boat, I can say size DOES matter. A board that is to big will ride high in the water and feel very squirrelly and loose, very hard to control. A board that is too small will ride low and be sluggish and unresponsive on edge. You wouldn't think that a few centimeters would make that much of a difference, but it really does. At your weight I'd recommend a 136-138, if you are still growing and plan on keeping your board for a few seasons I'd go 138. 142 is simply too big. _________________

| from what ive read the length is all about the wieght of the person...a 140(corect me if im wrong) is for generally a 160lb person and it goes up from there, and mostly what ive seen is that a 136 is a general all around decent size for any rider |

Akreckos, Walterc15 is correct, size is generally based on the weight of the rider.
As far as your board choice, the ERA is a solid shape that can take you from beginner to advanced with not too much trouble. I don't think that specific shape has changed too much in the past couple of years so if you want to save a few bucks you can get last year's model. (That's just me though, I like a good deal when I can get it.)
Welcome to the sport! |

Part of it depends on the size of wake you ride. But I would agree with a 136 - 138 based on your weight. Boards no have wider stance options to allow for your height.
I'm about 6'2 205 and I ride a wide 138 (rides like a 140). _________________ You have just entered the twilight zone. |

It is getting to the point where length is only one factor in board size. Try riding some friend's boards (if you can) and see what size/shape seems to fit you, though it will vary from one model to the next. I've always had a board larger than what is recommended for my weight. I ride a 142 and I'm around 170lbs, but I've tried boards in my weight category, even ones that are the same model that I don't prefer to mine. When my younger brother was learning, he used my board and didn't have much problem, but he did have to go slower though. Your boat speed will become a factor if you're getting very much larger or smaller than your recommended size. _________________
