Does anyone here ride with a helmet? I am thinking about getting one and am looking for opinions/suggestions.
I'm in the "over the hill" crowd. Going to be 33 this year but still like to do inverts and try new things. I've had some awesome wrecks a few times already this year where I was dizzy for a few hours after. Will a helmet help me out? thanks, |

This is a never ending debate. A helmet will protect your skull from hard objects like rails, sliders, and submerged logs. A helmet will most likely NOT protect you from concussions caused by hard falls on the water. _________________ Hilton Head Wake Sports.com

Not true, the debate is helmets will protect against head trauma, however, with the increase surface area the is potential risk for neck injury.
It really up to you and what you want to protect against, if you get your bell rung from time to time, then it may be worth it. _________________

| i just posted a similar ??? in the newby section if you would like to read it. There are a couple suggestions on helmets in there. The reason for my post was that while wake boarding this sun. i attemped a HS 180 like i have a few times and landed it but couldn't stay up and face planted. Well some how the board while attached to my feet came over or around my back and cracked my dome. I had to go to the ER and get 5 stitches. |

K9chokechain,
I just saw your post about 5 minutes after I posted this. I think I'll just buy one and see how it goes. If it seems to work I'll keep it. I do plan on building some sliders this year so it would definitely be a plus to have around for those types of things. |

| I wear one when I hit my slider. Other than that, I don't. |

My worst wipeouts involve more whiplash that blunt trauma. I wish they made a helmet to prevent that. |

When I start working on inverts I will wear one. The only "concussions" or concussion like head trauma I have experienced in wakeboarding was last year toward the end when I was goofing around and trying things I shouldnt have like back and front rolls.
I will wear it for confidence then shed when I feel better about the rolls. _________________ One ring to rule them all, one ring to find them. One ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them. |

i wear a helmet, outof respect for my mates eardrum which he burst riding at the start of the season, i look like a bit of a dick but id rather that than have 2 months off the water for that. Need to wear the earflaps though which do add to the doucheyness.
Worth getting though, mine is a peaked Bern thing. its comfy and sexy! _________________ burrrap |

Reminds me of the time I was snowboarding and faceplanted so hard that the board actually hit me in the back of the head with the edge right between and behind my feet! Never knew my body could stretch like that. Hurt like hell too haha. |

ya not sure how i folded up that much. I have tried to see if my feet can even reach that far and they dont. So i must have landed perfect and folded a lot more than I'm suppose to |

why is it that the helmet would not protect against impacts with water at high speed?
That makes no sense to me. the reason you are able to ride is because of the surface tension of water which, when you fall, will still be there. you will still be smacking your head. I think a helmet makes mroe sense if you (like me) are not fully confident in landing inverts and spins.
If i miss the handle and freeze backwards in mid air, I'm not interested in a concussion. _________________ Desperate, but not hopeless, I feel so useless in the murder city
