Just curious to see what the wake scene is at where you guys ride, or the lake your in etc. I'll base this in the area of the lake we ride in, because the lake's pretty big.

We ride on the west end of Wheeler lake, and we alternate between 2 coves, spring creek, and second creek.

Normally, it's second creek on the weekdays.

On a typical weekday, there will be one other boat out wakeboarding, or one sea doo wakeskating, and it's normally pretty calm. Maybe 2 or 3 pleasure boats and a handful of fisherman.

This past weekend, we counted 9 or 10 different groups of people wakeboarding and 7 or 8 boats that had towers etc.

It was awesome to see this many people riding, and a couple of boats would throw up the thumb and pinky sign whenever we rode by and landed something. Just awesome to see..

What about you guys?

Riddick,
We actually opted out of going this year. We just figure it'd better to spend the money to ride in the beginners division on riding behind the boat. Plus our boat is on the west side of wheeler, which is a long boat ride to g'ville.

It was fun last year though, but the party is definitely on the water.

There's a core group of us who ride here year round. We ride in a sheltered tidal creek on the Atlantic Intracoastal. Lots of fishing boats and pleasure cruisers around here, especially on the weekends in the Summer. We try to ride during the week or late in the day as much as possible. During the fall and winter we have the creek almost entirely to ourselves though. Definitely seeing more towers and more wakeboarders (and wakeskaters) each year. Cool

From what I can tell the scene is blowing up around here. Every time I go out I see 6-7 boats with towers everything from old outboards with homemade towers, to full on wake boats. All of last season I think I saw about 2 boats with towers, and a few riding behind plain ski boats.

Last year I saw maybe 1 or 2 other people wakeboarding. Yesterday I saw about 7. Including 1 Malibu and 1 master craft there and probably 6 other people with towers.

Same trend on Lake Chesdin in Southern VA. More and more wake boats, which is surprising given the economy.

Pffftttt...I see so many frikkin boats with towers and boards on them now with no one riding Confused I am talking a good 10+ I see around on the lake. I have seen them time and time again, not doing any kind of riding.

I almost feel like it is just "cool" to have a tower and boards you get at Sports Authority and just drive around the lake. Rolling Eyes

There are about 5 boats I see on a regular basis that have real boarders riding. I havent seen anyone spectacular yet, mostly just good airs/grabs and up to 360's and simple inverts.

Pretty much all of the boats are real nice whether they have real boarders or not: Nautiques, Malibus, Tige etc...and a couple of one like mine (sea ray sport 205 or similar models) that arent wakeboats per se.

So the scene is good here when a certain core group of us are out there, with the real boarders all smiles and waves and thumbs up. The rest of the time: posers.

I ride in one of the largets scenes in the nation here in Knoxville. Amature and Pro events happening in the summer. One resturaunt has rail riding once a week, special get togethers, pro meet and greets and ride alongs, boats everywhere with towers... no problem finding people to go with or to find a pull.

Knoxville is rocking it. as posted above, check out Knoxwake.com

crowded by us but our lakes are pretty much more like rivers so people always need to pass really close to each other.

I see some people on the local lakes here in KC. Having KC Watersports (cable park) here helps.

The lake I go to? Absolutely lame. I MIGHT see one other guy riding in an entire weekend.

Ya, i ride the Colorado River and its packed all weekend but completely empty during the week. Its mostly 30 foot eliminators and sea doos with quite a few wakeboard boats. Ive never met anybody i didnt like whos wakeboarding on the river, most of them are pretty cool, but everbody else are D-bags.

But pretty much if you go out monday through thursday, you are gonna get some really smooth water.

I see so many wakeboard boats, mostly mastercrafts that have a family with little kids on them (oldest kid is maybe 11). I'm not hating, but they are always just tubing and rarely ever see someone strap a board on.

Scene? What scene? Usually just one boat on the lake. Not just one wakeboardboat, but one boat in general.

Our scene is pretty good here. There is usually a good crowd on our lake. We see a mix of people with inboards and I/O's anywhere from just getting started to fairly advanced, depending on the time of day and day of the week you go. I have noticed some of the same people this year that were just getting started last year that seem to have learned how to drive an area better to keep the water smooth and be courteous to others.

I'd say going out on a Saturday morning I will see a few other boats out there wakeboarding and we all kind of space out and not disturb each other. By around noon it gets pretty busy. By 6-7 it clears back out again until dark. Weekdays are much less busy. Sometimes you won't see anyone during the day and you might see a couple in the evening.

It seems the sport is gaining interest out here for sure. I see more and more people out wakeboarding every time we're out. Last time we were out I got kind of mad because there was a family just getting started in the sport and they were making a giant circle around the cove, screwing up the water for themselves and everyone else. As we discussed it, my wife made a comment that we used to do the same thing before we got taught the "right way" by watching the first The Book DVD. Mr. Green

Because of that, I'm going to make a conscious effort to go help those people learn whenever I get a chance so they understand that driving the line then doing your turnaround and driving the same line will result in better water for them and everyone else around.

Im on High Rock Lake in NC and our scene is just getting started. On weekdays there are usually about 5 fishing boats and a couple of recreation boats, usually pulling tubers. On weekends there about probably about 2-3 wakeboats out and a few other pleasure boats, mostly chaparell and tahoes, with towers, theres even a bass boat with a tower. Theres more of a scene on the other side of our lake, we see some nautiques and malibus every time we go over, but weve never seen anyone very good. Most people just ride around on their hydroslide wakeboards but there are a few guys who are throwing some basic inverts and spins. It's sad though because no one really knows anything about the sport and everyone just yells at us to do flips when we ride by.

We have a few riders in my area but due to a lack of good weather, useable lochs (most of them are national parks etc so no power vessels) and money (to buy boats) people in my area partake in a local club. It operates on a volunteer driver basis, so people like myself who are qualified drivers are insure to run the boat we pay for each tow and charge to public, the money goes into a fund and each 3 years we get a new boat, we can only use it wednesday nights and the weekend but the loch is private so we always have the place to ourselves. Sounds pretty good i guess, nice compromise, but it comes with some catches. Like the fact that the club was origianlly setup by skiiers means that even a crossover boat is a nogo for them, tourney ski boat all the way. Secondly it takes a few years of regular attendance before they will consider you as a boat driver (irrespective of the fact you may have driven alot of boats before, even exactly the same boats...) so boat drivers are a premium. Us drivers dont get paid and give up our time for the sake of the club.

Its all good when its good, but last night this happend. I finished work at 5:30 drove the 1hr trip to the loch, it was overcast but calm. No other drivers showed up so i gave my mate a tow and i just had to put the boat away afterwards. The photo below is my idea of hell. There is a boat, a private loch, glassy water and my mate is a more than competant driver but not accredited to the club therefor i would get srewed if anyone saw him driving - and i didnt get to ride....pish

anyone got a spare room somewhere hot on a lake where i can come and live so i dont have to deal with this??

alfromscotland, Bummer, that water looks sweet. I do like the idea of a club like that though, great way to spread the sport to people that can't afford boats. I'd be interested in hearing more about that. Kind of sucks that you only get ski boats, couldn't you start a sister club for WB'ing?

I ride with my friend Jay (smrtz on this board) on the Grand River ocasionally. But, my boat is up on Rice Lake, just east of Peterborough.
